The Lost Symbol Review: Order 8 (Season 1 Episode 9)
Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol Season 1 Episode 9, “Order 8,” adds some excitement to the mix of things again. We’re past all the Zachary is Mal’akh backstory, and we’re back to trying to locate the ancient wisdom. It’s about time.
This is the penultimate episode, so it needed to have us on the edge of our seats, hyped for what is to come.
Thankfully, this suspense is around the majority of the episode and doesn’t just appear during the final scene. Don’t get me wrong, there’s definitely suspense starting when Peter goes to handle the security guard, but we also start “Order 8” with concern over Nunez, and then there’s also the CIA sting.

It’s a thrilling hour, which is amazing. This is why we all tuned into The Lost Symbol, and it is such a relief that the series decided to finally show back up.
My absolute favorite moment of the hour is the reveal that Peter, Langdon, and Katherine are pulling one over on the CIA. It’s such a brilliant moment, and Nunez being an essential part of it always makes me happy. Let’s just hope he makes it through the finale in one piece — he doesn’t need to get shot again.
It makes sense given their past run-ins with the CIA that Langdon and Katherine would prepare to be double-crossed, and it makes even more sense that they would lure Mal’akh with a decoy location. It’s not even a lie; it’s what people who were not smart enough to look at the bottom of the pyramid would’ve thought was the location.
All of this culminates in one great con. Peter, Langdon, and Katherine work really well together, especially once Katherine abandoned the idea of destroying the pyramid and capstone. Each of them contributes to solving the mystery, and there’s not a weak link to be seen. Peter even gets to put on his mentor/teacher hat a couple of times.

The CIA capturing a Mal’akh decoy is beyond predictable.
They don’t check under his hood until after transporting him to the second location, which makes zero sense. You take the bad guy down, and then you verify his identity before you even move him to be transported. This seems like too big of a rookie mistake to be made by the CIA; it’s a bit unbelievable.
So, we have to bide our time, waiting for the CIA to realize how badly they messed up and for Mal’akh to show up and crash Peter, Langdon, and Katherine’s party. It’s unclear how he found them, but we all knew it was leading up to that moment.

As we look towards the finale, there are some things we want to happen.
One of them is Peter being the instrument coming back into play. It was too important of a thing to mention episodes ago to now be forgotten. Peter’s been through a lot, so let’s share what was meant to become of him.
Along with that, learning Mal’akh’s big plan is a must. We’ve spent too much time on him to not understand his endgame. I’m betting he reveals it all while chatting with Katherine.
