Silo Season 3 Episode 7 Review: A Look at the Beginning

Silo Season 3 Episode 7, “Radio,” finally begins to reveal what the series has been building up to all season long.

It’s taken a majority of the season, but the storyline for the Before Times is finally getting juicy. We finally get a look at the group of people claiming to work to save the world from extinction, while still leaving plenty of unanswered questions to keep fans on the edge of their seats.

In the current timeline, things go awry after sending Lukas Kyle and Patrick Kennedy outside before Camille can notice, forcing Juliette to switch tactics and face the burning question: how far is she willing to go to prevent The Safeguard?

Per Stenson, Friend or Foe?

After this outing, there’s still a lot to be learned about Stenson, but he comes off as someone who potentially cares about the good of humanity. He seems to be the antithesis of what we know to be true about real-world billionaires.

That feeling ultimately comes through as Stenson tells Helen the story of why he stopped trying to create the world’s first unicorn. After learning about the project, one of the top ten billionaires in the world approached him about hunting and killing it once he’s finished, only solidifying what everyone already believes: billionaires are literally the worst.

If there’s one thing we’ve learned from Silo at this point, though, it’s never safe to judge a character based on limited actions. It’s almost as if the series wants us to believe that Stenson is a one-in-a-million person who, unlike others with money, is looking out for the good of the world.

The only thing posing a threat to that stance: what is Stenson’s goal with building these silo’s? What do he and Senator Thurman know about what’s to come? At this point, the world isn’t entering extinction mode just yet, which means that they either know for sure of what’s to come, or they’re preparing all off of a hunch.

Either way, it’s teeing up these last three episodes to be quite the doozy, as the series is still tasked with providing enough answers to satisfy viewers while leaving enough mystery to explore in the final season.

Colin Hanks might only be entering the season near the finish line, but his presence in “Radio” is captivating, and I cannot wait to see more of him.

A Close Call

After sending Lukas and Patrick on their way, things go haywire immediately, with their mission seemingly being cut short by the sound of gunfire over the radios.

It’s an alarming sequence of events, and the loss of communication leads the crew to devise a new plan: blowing up a portion of Judicial. However, that poses a major risk, as they’re not sure exactly where the pipes fueling The Safeguard are.

The intentions behind the decision are nothing but supportive for the entirety of the silo, but one wrong move, and the toxic fumes are released, threatening a thousand lives.

It raises the question of how far one is willing to go to do the right thing, as Juliette wants to avoid risking any lives. However, we soon learn, thanks to the glorious return of Gloria Hildebrant(!!), Camille putting the vitamin D+ in the water supply could pose a greater risk.

Based on Salvador Quinn’s research and his past use of the vitamin, they learn that it’s much more lethal than expected. 140 years ago, when the last rebellion happened and the water supply was drugged, the silo saw extreme turmoil.

People began forgetting their family, friends, and eventually, even themselves. It led to over two thousand deaths, as many forgot to eat, while others simply jumped right off the side of the stairs to their death.

Thankfully, Patrick radios into Juliette and Martha with clutch timing, informing them that despite a little trouble, aka the gunfire we heard, they made it, and the kids are alright.

Their arrival at silo 17 certainly warrants a round of cheers, but also poses even more questions. Who exactly was after the two outside of the silo? How did they get away safely?

Stray Thoughts:

• Camille is losing her mind more and more with each passing day. At this point, it won’t be much of a shock if we end the season with her killing Robert.
• Patrick freaking out about the desolate landscape outside is one of the only funny moments of the outing. That said, after spending all that time defending the possibility of a lush paradise outside the silo, his reaction still feels a bit lacking.
