CSI: Vegas Review: In The Blood (Season 1 Episode 7)

CSI: Vegas, Reviews

On CSI: Vegas Season 1 Episode 7, “In The Blood,” killer kids and a murderous attorney are on the loose. It gets messy

I am, of course, speaking literally and figuratively, because of the bloody horse and Max’s job and all. Ba dum tss.

“In The Blood” is stuffed to the brim with information, and I don’t mean this negatively. Though there are several things happening in this episode, including Max’s son working with her, and Wix’s case getting more fleshed out, it’s never too much.

The episode isn’t overwhelming or hard to keep up with. The characters and the writing balance out perfectly to make CSI: Vegas an almost always surprising, interesting show.

This happens especially when we meet Anson Wix’s sister, Anna Wix.

The thought, or the hope, really, is that Anna will become somewhat of a source for Grissom, Sara, and Hodges, turning against him when she finds out what he’s done.

That, unfortunately, would be just too easy.

It seems that Anna not only despises Grissom on sight but is also rooting for her brother in what he’s doing.

And look, I have two siblings, I totally understand that sibling bond, but when it comes to letting more than eight thousand criminals go free?

Girl. Anna. Come on.

We get to see more of Bryan Roby, and thank goodness we do.

Bryan’s finally figured out what he wants to do, and it involves a casino. Because duh, Vegas. Max feels comfortable enough to talk to Josh of all people about this, and this scene is my favorite on the episode.

It’s always been clear that Max and Josh were fairly close, but to be as close as Bryan going to Josh for a reference? Be still my found family heart!

There is one thing I’d like to mention about “In The Blood” that confused me.

Towards the end of this episode, Theo and Corey are physically fighting, and Max and Josh drag them apart.

Y’all. Why are the CSI techs pulling suspects off of each other?

CSI: Vegas never sticks to a route of he said, she said, he killed her because of love, she killed him because of cheating. That’s what makes it so fun.

The show obviously needs a case of the week format, but CSI: Vegas doesn’t drop the ball and give the audience generic cases because the writers, for the most part, know this fanbase and what they like.

It’s a relief compared to the repetitiveness that comes from other weekly cop procedurals.

CSI: Vegas is especially different when you consider things like the body farm, and that this episode held a halfway house for children who were convicted murderers.

It’s a heavy task, a risky task to take on, but CSI: Vegas knows it should be done.

The victim on “In The Blood” is killed because he tried to convince his son to stop breeding their horse. Is that not the most bonkers thing you’ve heard, in at least a month?

And then, Josh adopts the horse! Because he wanted to be a vet until his mom got sick!

Oh jeez, I’m about to get emotional thinking about Josh and Allie giving Kings Gambit a nice, quiet life.

Unfortunately, I’m able to think about this for maybe three seconds when Max is demoted. She must evacuate immediately, and Wix is behind all of it.

This probably means that even though we’ve been able to measure up to Anson, know where he’s at and how he’s thinking, we’re losing this ability.

Max can no longer vouch for Sara and Grissom, or honestly any of the CSI techs still looking into David Hodges’ case.

She’s been able to get information quietly, keeping it on a need-to-know basis, and with her resources limited, who knows what tricks Wix can pull out of his hat.

Very, very frustrating that even though he knows the CSI techs are onto him, Anson has the upper hand.

Deep sigh.

Stray Thoughts:
  • Josh reaches in front of Allie when he first sees the child with an ax… They’re in love, your honor!
  • David Hodges, with an ankle monitor: hey do you guys think I could just like, try and solve my own case? Literally everyone: absolutely not. David: okay cool so yes?
  • I now need to see Josh interact with animals every possible second he is on screen.
