Chucky – Season 1 Chucky TV Series Renewed for Season 2

Chucky TV Series Renewed for Season 2

News

Halloween may be long gone, but horror fans just got something new to look forward to. NBCUniversal’s Chucky TV series has been renewed for Season 2 ahead of its first season finale on Nov. 30.

USA Networks and Syfy has greenlit another round of episodes, confirming the television extension of the Child’s Play films would continue beyond the initial eight episodes.

The series, which takes place after 2017’s Cult of Chucky, brings the franchise’s murderous doll to a small town where there’s far more drama than the series of killings that accompany his arrival.

The first season of Chucky has explored the relationships and power dynamics of the doll’s victims as much as it’s delved into Chucky’s (voiced by Brad Dourif) own past.

Season 2 will likely continue exploring similar themes, but we won’t know exactly where this story is headed until the finale has its say — and the newest episode may shake things up for the characters in a big way.

Chucky Season 1 will head to Peacock after its finale airs, so subscribers can check it out ahead of the second season. Per Deadline, NBCUniversal reported a reach of 9.5 million viewers for the first outing.

“We’re thrilled to start pulling the strings on a second season of puppet mayhem with ‘Chucky,’” said executive producer Don Mancini in a statement. “Many thanks to our partners at USA, SYFY and UCP for their incredible support and guidance bringing ‘Chucky’ to the small screen, bigger than ever. And to the fans, Chucky sends his still-undying thanks, and a message: ‘This isn’t over, not by a long shot. You better watch your backs in 2022!’”

During a time where just about every classic horror franchise is being revisited in some way, those are impressive numbers. And Chucky has received high praise so far, especially compared to critics’ less enthusiastic responses to Universal’s Halloween Kills and Amazon’s I Know What You Did Last Summer.

It will be exciting to see where Chucky takes its next batch of episodes — and to speculate about them following the finale for Season 1.
