4400 Review: All Things Are Possible (Season 1 Episode 2)
Things are getting bleaker in quarantine on 4400 Season 1 Episode 2, “All Things Are Possible.”
The series is working quickly to establish a world and maintain interest. The crucible of quarantine has proved a fertile ground for sewing discord especially when it comes to rallying the returnees.

So far, the story has wasted no time establishing that the returnees are special, even if not everyone has come into their powers.
Reverend Johnson feels primed for a leadership role. Knowing the original series as I do, he seems poised to be the character who is able to establish the mythos around the 4400. He’s the Jordan Collier of the bunch.
What’s especially interesting is how Claudette is at odds with him. We can make a few inferences about what her life was like before she was taken, and knowing she’s uncomfortable with preachers and men of the cloth gives us ample ground to start imagining where this is going.
I am personally, looking forward to Claudette being Reverend Johnson’s foil and seeing how she engages with that rhetoric from her perspective. That storyline can take its time and brew, but it’s definitely one of the relationships I am most looking forward to seeing come to fruition.

Reverend Johnson’s story dominates this hour giving us a backstory that gives us a fresh perspective on where he was compared to where he is now. It is interesting to see how he was pulling away from his father in favor of his girlfriend.
Watching him decide to leave them be so that he can form this congregation with the returnees feels like a complete 180, but it also gives his character room to grow. It proves just how malleable he can be and it makes me wonder if there’s a bigger influence at work.
One of the things that the show has been good at highlighting right now is how different returnees have different attachments to the lives they lost.

Mildred’s mentioned that she doesn’t know anyone in 2021. Claudette is embracing the new world she’s in. Andre knows that everyone he’s ever loved is dead. It makes sense that not everyone is hungry to reunite with the life they left behind, and letting that play out in a way that makes sense for each returnee makes a lot more sense than releasing them all at once.
Overall, this is another promising direction for the series that keeps us interested in the characters. While we don’t know exactly what each ability is for, seeing more people embrace the abilities they’re discovering has been a rewarding ride.
Stray Thoughts:
- I kind of miss the mystery and innocence of Maia Rutledge from the original series. Giving us a bit more of the teenagers trying to find the Best Time bars is a strong attempt at capturing that magic.
- Points for actually including a doorbell camera when Keisha talks to Logan.
- Anyone else feeling a romance brewing between Shanice and Andre?
- I am looking forward to seeing Soraya feel the role of a theory room geek! I am betting she puts the puzzle together in no time.
