CSI: Vegas Review: Long Pig (Season 1 Episode 4)

CSI: Vegas, Reviews

Tensions are high on CSI: Vegas Season 1 Episode 3, “Long Pig”, as Grissom and Sara are questioned and Max grapples with her son facing trouble.

“Long Pig” tries to take on many different topics, and while it succeeds at one, another is lacking. First, we must deal with the victim of the week, who’s accused of raping a woman who overdosed two weeks prior.

Immediately, to Allie, and to the audience, JJ is no longer the victim, he’s the villain.

It becomes a game of cat and mouse once we discover that JJ didn’t actually rape Rachel Koa. Allie wants to solve Rachel’s case, but Max tells her they need to focus on JJ.

This case is hard for Allie, and her anger is never explained properly. I can only assume we’re meant to see this as Allie being generally upset as a woman, but further details would’ve been appreciated.

On the other side of things, Max is dealing with her son being arrested for *checks notes* trying to break up a fight. He’s a large Black man getting between two people trying to help, and only after he accidentally pushes the cop, is the gun pulled on him

“Long Pig” tries to show Max with her son, Allie struggling with JJ’s case, and Grissom and Sara in the midst of arguably the most crucial moment of their careers.

There’s a bit too much going on, especially when dealing with a topic such as Black Lives Matter.

If CSI: Vegas wants to dive into the importance of Max Roby being a CSI lead, and her son having a gun pointed at him before the age of 21, it needs to be on its own episode.

Finally, we come to Grissom and Sara, who still give me butterflies whenever they use the words “husband” and “wife”. The two head into battle against Detective Cross with different agendas.

Again, this part of the episode is a bit too fast-paced to enjoy properly, but that doesn’t disregard it entirely.

Somehow, though, Sara makes it work!

Unfortunately for anyone who loves a boring storyline, one of David Hodges’ cases did indeed include falsified evidence.

Realistically, this is a nightmare. On CSI: Vegas? This is going to be fun

Stray Thoughts:
  • “The whole pig and caboodle” line made me scream. William Petersen delivers it perfectly, too.
  • Watching Folsom and Hugo just casually tearing off JJ’s melted skin was something I did not anticipate to come of my Wednesday night, but it’s cool.
  • “She’s made for this job.” Screaming, crying, throwing up. So true, Grissom.
  • It seems that Chris Park may be returning to our screens soon!
  • How are we almost halfway through this season and we don’t even know Allie’s fiance’s name? Yes, I will mention every change I get that Allie shouldn’t be engaged
