CSI: Vegas Review: Honeymoon in Vegas (Season 1 Episode 2)

CSI: Vegas, Reviews

On CSI: Vegas Season 1 Episode 2 “Honeymoon in Vegas,” David Hodges returns… and makes an upsetting discovery about one of his closest companions.

First, though, the team investigates a couple who’s been murdered the day before their wedding. The two are regulars at a swingers club, and as soon as this is said, it’s clear that the writers came into CSI: Vegas planning to have fun with it.

The directing, as per usual, is so much fun. It’s classic and new at the same time, making it refreshing to watch.

Sara and Grissom once again become a small, and integral part of the team, here. And a bit surprisingly, they become comedic relief.

Though Grissom and Sara are at odds almost the entire episode, they work together wonderfully. They’re quick to talk out what’s bothering them and why, as they try to understand each other’s point of view.

I’m not on any specific side regarding Hodges’s innocence, because as a fan, it would be devastating if the accusations against him are true. As a critic, though, I think it would be exciting.

Immoral, completely. But imagine finding out that someone you’ve known for 12+ years has been lying about the entirety of who he was for even longer than that.

It would be some fun TV.

Once we see David Hodges again, though, it’s almost very clear that he’s innocent. He’s distraught, his wife is distraught, it’s a whole thing. (But seriously, wouldn’t his perceived innocence make him being guilty all the more fun?)

As Allie and Folsom solve the swingers’ case, their flirting is so adorable and I’m left to wonder why the heck they gave Allie a fiance.

Logically, I know it’s to delay the romance a bit, but man I sure hope they don’t make us wait eight seasons.

The best thing about this entire episode is when Maxine takes a scorched polaroid and quite literally un-scorches it. The scene is so genuine and so CSI that I don’t even case if labs can actually do this.

“Honeymoon in Vegas” begins a journey of David Hodges’s actual case, and that brings us one step closer to getting the show to only case-of-the-week things every week, and I’m excited about that.

The writers are clearly building up to something big, whether that be Hodges’s case or something else entirely, but it’s a very slow build-up. It’s great that the season only has ten episodes because it seems like that’s all it needs so far.

We’ll find out what they want us to know soon enough!

Stray Thoughts:

  • “I love your wife!” “Me too!” Me three, y’all! The CSI: Vegas writers are killing it with dialogue.
  • I absolutely love the Catherine mentions but it is very clear Marg Helgenberger is either extremely busy or doesn’t want to come back.
  • Jim Brass and his bird should go on a comedy tour.
  • The scene where Sara and Grissom bring the dead dog into the morgue will be imprinted on my brain forever. The oh so casual way Grissom says “this? This is a dead dog” as if that’s completely normal and not to be questioned.
