Russell T. Davies Returns as ‘Doctor Who’ Showrunner

• The man who brought Doctor Who back into the mainstream is returning to the TARDIS for its 60th anniversary.
• According to BBC, Russell T. Davies, who wrote and executive produced the series from its relaunch in 2005 to the regeneration and exit of David Tennant’s Tenth Doctor in 2009, will return as showrunner in 2023.
• In his time away from the TARDIS, Davies has created award winning series Years and Years, A Very English Scandal, and It’s a Sin.
• “I’m beyond excited to be back on my favourite show,” Davies said. “But we’re time-travelling too fast, there’s a whole series of Jodie Whittaker’s brilliant Doctor for me to enjoy, with my friend and hero Chris Chibnall at the helm – I’m still a viewer for now.”
• Thirteenth Doctor Jodie Whittaker recently announced she was leaving the role at the end of 2022. She will continue as The Doctor for the upcoming Season 13 and three specials in 2022 before regenerating.
• Current executive producer Chris Chibnall will also exit at the end of 2022, at which time Davies will once again take the reins.
• Doctor Who Season 13 is scheduled to premiere in the Fall.

‘Teen Wolf’ Movie in the Works at Paramount+

• One of television’s most loyal fanbases is being rewarded with a revival movie. Teen Wolf is set to return at Paramount+, with the original cast in talks for the project.
• Creator Jeff Davis is writing and executive producing the film as part of his new overall deal with MTV Entertainment.
• Per the official movie logline: “A full moon rises in Beacon Hills, and with it a terrifying evil has emerged. The wolves are howling once again, calling for the return of Banshees, Werecoyotes, Hellhounds, Kitsunes, and every other shapeshifter in the night. But only a Werewolf like Scott McCall, no longer a teenager yet still an Alpha, can gather both new allies and reunite trusted friends to fight back against what could be the most powerful and deadliest enemy they’ve ever faced.”
• Teen Wolf ran on MTV for 100 episodes across six seasons, and followed new werewolf Scott, as he balanced his supernatural life with that of a regular teenager.
• The cast included current film and TV stars Tyler Posey, Dylan O’Brien, Colton Haynes, and Tyler Hoechlin.
• Teen Wolf is currently streaming on Hulu and MTV.  

TNT Sets ‘Claws’ Season 4 Premiere Date

• TNT is putting something extra in our Christmas stocking, with the premiere of Claws Season 4 Sunday, Dec. 26 at 9/8c, per TVLine.
• When we last saw Desna and the girls, they were running a casino, which Quiet Ann burned down as revenge for Arlene’s murder, while Desna stayed with Dean as Roller went to Havana to avoid going to jail.
• Claws Season 4 sees the women once again competing with Uncle Daddy, and the show getting back to its crazy roots.
• Claws is now streaming on Hulu and TNT, with the 10 episode final season premiering Sunday, Dec. 26 at 9/8c.

‘The Orville’ Finally Gets Season 3 Premiere Date

• After three long years, The Orville will finally set sail again, as Season 3 will premiere in spring 2022.
• TVLine reports, The Orville: New Horizons will hit screens Thursday, March 10 on Hulu, with new episodes weekly.
• Returning cast members Seth MacFarlane, Adrianne Palicki, Jessica Szohr, Penny Johnson Jerald, Scott Grimes, Peter Macon, J. Lee, Mark Jackson, and Chad L. Coleman will be joined by Anne Winters and guest star Eliza Taylor.
• The late Norm Macdonald will once again voice Gelatin lieutenant Yaphit.
• The Orville is streaming on Hulu, with Season 3 premiering Thursday, March 10.

Kathryn Hahn to Star as Joan Rivers in ‘The Comeback Girl’ at Showtime

• Following her acclaimed performance as Agatha Harkness in WandaVision, Kathryn Hahn is set to take on another iconic role.
• Variety reports, the Emmy nominated actress will play Joan Rivers in the Showtime limited series The Comeback Girl.
• Per the offficial logline: “Trailblazer. Adored. Cruel. Diva. Joan Rivers had a life like no other. At age 54, she was a superstar comedienne…and then it all fell apart. THE COMEBACK GIRL is the awe-inspiring untold story of how Joan Rivers persevered through near suicide and professional abyss to rebuild herself and her career to become a global icon.”
• Set following the cancellation of The Late Show, Hahn will also executive produce the project alongside writer Cosmo Carlson, and director Greg Berlanti.
• Next up, Hahn can be seen in The Shrink Next Door, which premieres on AppleTV+ Friday, Nov. 12. She is also set to co-star in Knives Out 2.

NBC Picks up ‘The Endgame’ Starring Morena Baccarin, Ryan Michelle Bathe

• NBC continues its interest in cops and robbers, with bank heist thriller The Endgame.
• Deadline reports, the network has ordered the series starring Morena Baccarin and Ryan Michelle Bathe.
• The Endgame follows “Elena Federova (Baccarin), a very recently captured international arms dealer and brilliant criminal mastermind who even in captivity orchestrates a number of coordinated bank heists, and Val Turner (Bathe), the principled, relentless and socially outcast FBI agent who will stop at nothing to foil her ambitious plan.”
• The pilot was directed by The Fast and the Furious franchise vet Justin Lin, while the cast includes Kamal Angelo Bolden, Costa Ronin, Noah Bean, Jordan Johnson-Hinds, and Mark D. Espinoza.

Netflix Renews ‘Virgin River’ for Seasons 4 and 5

• To the surprise of no one, Netflix has given a two season renewal to hit drama Virgin River, per TVLine.
• The series stars Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson as Mel and Jack, alongside TV favorites Annette O’Toole and Tim Matheson.
• The Virgin River Season 3 finale was chock full of cliffhangers including, Hope’s surgery, Brady’s arrest, and Mel telling Jack she’s pregnant with either his or Mark’s baby.
• Based on the novels by Robyn Carr, Virgin River topped the Nielsen streaming rankings July 12, the first week all three seasons were available at the same time. With 2.1 billion minutes viewed across 30 episodes, it ended Manifest’s stranglehold on the top spot.
• Virgin River is now streaming on Netflix.

Peacock Orders ‘Pitch Perfect’ Series Starring Adam Devine

• Adam Devine and Elizabeth Banks are getting the group back together, as Peacock has given a straight to series order for a Pitch Perfect comedy sequel.
• According to The Hollywood Reporter, Devine will return as Bumper, while Banks will executive produce through her Brownstone Productions.
• The series features “Bumper moving to Germany to revive his music career when one of his songs becomes big in Berlin.”
• The Pitch Perfect film trilogy followed the acapella groups of Barden University as they balanced young adulthood with the cutthroat yet hilarious world of competitive acapella singing.
• If you’re in the mood for an aca-binge, all three Pitch Perfect movies are available on HBO Max.
