Welcome to a new week and another round of What to Watch on TV for the week of July 4th! We’ll be sharing our picks for what to watch this week, from marathons to big guest spots, and significant episodes of TV to look forward to while stuck inside.

This week’s picks include Netflix’s We The People, the final season of Atypical, and more.

We The People – Sunday, July 4

Netflix and the Obamas are giving civics lessons a catchy update by doing a Schoolhouse Rock-like turn on important topics such as voting, taxes, and much more with a host of directors, musical collaborators, and writers. We The People debuts Sunday, July 4 on Netflix.

Special Description: Combining music and animation to educate a new generation of young Americans about the power of the people, We the People is a series of 10 animated music videos that covers a range of basic U.S. civics lessons in not-so-basic ways. Set to original songs performed by artists such as H.E.R., Janelle Monáe, Brandi Carlile, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Adam Lambert, Cordae, Bebe Rexha, KYLE, Andra Day, and poet Amanda Gorman, with a groundbreaking mix of animated styles — each episode of We the People is an exuberant call to action for everyone to rethink civics as a living, breathing thing and to reframe their understanding of what government and citizenship mean in a modern world.

Chris Hemsworth trades in Mjolnir and cape for a surfboard and wetsuit as he explores the world of shark-human encounters with Australian biologists and learns about the latest scientific developments and preventative measures to keep these encounters from happening. Shark Beach with Chris Hemsworth debuts Monday, July 5 at 9/8c on National Geographic.

Special Description: In this special, Hemsworth, surfer and renowned environmentalist, joins local biologists to explore how existing preventative measures work to stave off shark-human encounters and dives with different species of sharks to understand their behaviours and power. He also uncovers the latest breakthroughs in shark science technology designed to protect both sharks and humans.

The latest entry in the Monsters-verse follows a young monster named Tylor Tuskmon as he starts his new job at Monsters, Incorporated, determined to become a jokester after finding out that scaring is no longer their source of power. Monsters at Work debuts Wednesday, July 7 on Disney+.

Series Description: “Monsters At Work” takes place the day after the Monsters, Incorporated power plant started harvesting the laughter of children to fuel the city of Monstropolis, thanks to Mike and Sulley’s discovery that laughter generates ten times more energy than screams. It follows the story of Tylor Tuskmon, an eager young monster who graduated top of his class at Monsters University and always dreamed of becoming a Scarer until he lands a job at Monsters, Incorporated, and discovers that scaring is out and laughter is in. After Tylor is temporarily reassigned to the Monsters, Inc. Facilities Team(MIFT), he must work alongside a misfit bunch of mechanics while setting his sights on becoming a Jokester.

The Upper East Side’s got a new anonymous writer to contend with as a new generation finds out the power that the gossiping queen holds over the city. Gossip Girl makes its revival debut Thursday, July 8 on HBO Max.

Series Description: This extension of the pop culture classic takes us back to the Upper East Side finding a new generation of New York private school teens being introduced to social surveillance nine years after the original blogger’s website went dark.

It’s the summer before senior year, and Zoey and the crew head south of the border for a fun-filled vacation before the semester starts. Grown-ish returns Thursday, July 8 at 8/7c on Freeform.

Episode Description: Summer is heating up. In part one of the season four premiere, Zoey and the gang head to Mexico for a summer getaway filled with drinking games, new hook-ups, some relationship drama … and even a wedding!

Sam’s moved out on his own and the whole family is learning to work through the next steps in their lives, from having their kids leave the house to pursuing new relationships, and career choices. The final season of Atypical debuts Friday, July 9 on Netflix.

Season Description: With Casey and Sam both on the cusp of leaving the nest, each member of the Gardner family faces big decisions about where life will go next.

Black Widow – Friday, July 9

After what may be considered way too long, Natasha Romanoff’s solo movie is here and ready to dive further into her past, her ties to her home, and reconciling who she is with who she was before the Avenger initiative. Black Widow drops Friday, July 9 on Disney+.

Movie Description: Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.
