Dynasty Review: I Hate to Spoil Your Memories (Season 4 Episode 10)

Dynasty, Reviews

Fallon’s company is under attack from a cyberhacker, Sam’s relationship hits a snag, and Kirby loses her way on Dynasty Season 4 Episode 10, “I Hate to Spoil Your Memories.”

On “I Hate to Spoil Your Memories,” it’s revealed to the audience that Sam, among Fallon and Adam, is also in attendance at the funeral coming up in the next few episodes.

At this point, the two apparent answers for “who’s funeral is it?” are Cristal due to her inoperable tumor and Liam. Liam’s involved in a serious matter that he doesn’t quite understand, putting him and anyone close to him in danger as long as he continues looking into his fathers’ death.

Fallon’s company storyline does not keep my interest easily. However, her and Jeff linking together gives her yet another chance to look at how she treats the people around her. The question now is, how many more times does Fallon need to be reminded about her attitude?

Fallon’s approach to life and how she thinks people should be treated has been addressed many times before on the show, with some progress on her end. It’s redundant to continue circling around the same point with Fallon, just like the show tries to do with Blake, even though after four seasons, he’s finally making progress.

Fallon is nowhere near as bad as Blake, but with the complications of her company and marriage, it’s continued to progress on her end. Who in their right mind thinks their employee willingly wants to rub your feet for their enjoyment? Only Fallon.

The main attraction to “I Hate to Spoil Your Memories” is the highly anticipated link-up between Sam, Fletcher, and Ryan. Sam has been avoiding Ryan because he feels guilty about cheating but actively refuses to tell him about the incident until he no longer has a choice.

It’s a marvelous idea for Sam to end up being the stripper for Fletcher because if it hadn’t, there’s no telling when or if Sam would have said anything. Sam and Ryan’s relationship has been a cute little fling that had the potential to be more, but like most budding storylines, it was chopped at the root.

In the beginning, it was iffy between Ryan and Sam, but their relationship came to be adorable, for about two episodes only. Neither of them has seen each other, they barely communicate, and there have been secrets involved since the beginning. Their relationship was never going to stick, but it’s still sad to see everything fall around Sam.

The introduction of Fletcher again is messy, and frankly, absolutely unnecessary if the only point of his return is to break Sam and Ryan up. When Sam found out that Fletcher was married, he backed off and let the relationship fizzle out, but Fletcher doesn’t extend the same courtesy for him.

Overall the whole love triangle storyline is messy, and it’s a blessing that it’s over, but it’s disheartening for Sam because he loses both Ryan and Fletcher.

Kirby’s little fling with Oliver is a travesty because she’s already well aware of how manipulative and destructive he is for her. After only two episodes of them being together again, she’s back to being a full-time coke user, only focused on doing what Oliver wants to do.

There’s no secret that this was coming; it’s in Kirby’s nature to be a follower around the men she “loves.” Even though it makes me sick to my stomach to watch Adam and Kirby together, it’ll be disappointing if he doesn’t put his psychotic ways to use and get rid of Oliver. But, could Oliver be a match for Adams crazy?

As much as the show is dropping hints that it will be either Cristal or Liam that bite the bullet, I’m still waiting for the other pin to drop. It seems a little too easy for the funeral to be about either of them and begs the question: who else could it be?

Personally, there’s this gut feeling that it’s not going to be someone we’re used to seeing regularly. The show has barely mentioned Steven at all since Adam tricked him into a psychiatric ward, but recently he’s been mentioned twice, and that could be subtle foreshadowing.

It wouldn’t be out of place for Dynasty to throw a curveball and bring back an old character to kill off, just to give the audience a run for their money. It would also make sense to have Steven’s character officially killed off since it’s obvious there’s no desire for them to bring him back.

Adam’s character write-off will forever be one of the worst decisions made for the show.

“I Hate to Spoil Your Memories” is not one of the better episodes of the season, but it gets the job done. The episode also allows fans to have something to look forward to after the reveal that Liam is now being stalked and watched.
