Beverly Hills, 90210 Re-Watch: Speechless (Season 6 Episode 6)
We’re jumping back into the rewatch with Beverly Hills, 90210 Season 6 Episode 6, “Speechless,” and I’ll admit it’s a weird spot to begin again.
There’s nothing too special about it when all is said and done, nor is there anything funny about the “porn filming at Casa Walsh” plotline. That definitely does not hold up whether Brandon knows about it at first or not. After all, he ends up going along with it.
I chose to rewatch this episode because of the twist on the “girls road trip” episode that Beverly Hills, 90210 dares to try. Name a teen drama from the early 2000s on that would dare stick their leading ladies in a convent forced to take a vow of silence because of car trouble. You can’t.

It might be an odd choice, but for Kelly, Donna, Claire, and Valerie, it works. They definitely have a lot of drama to clear their heads of. If only Kelly would have rid herself of Colin, too — but I digress.
I love that their silent time leads to peace with Valerie — she’s not perfect but she cannot catch a break in this town. Often, Kelly is the queen everyone blindly follows and she’s annoying.
Without much context, it seems like Donna has a valid reason to be upset, and it’s nice to see Claire and Kelly look to her before the truce is official (at least for now).
Valerie at least wants to protect her frenemies from true harm. Someone needs to be real with Donna and let her know that domestic violence is never, ever the answer, no matter if he only hits you on vacation or not.

I get a little bit emotional when watching the final scene of “Speechless.” Yes, first and foremost because I’m proud of Donna for standing up to Ray and kicking him out. But also because we know from watching the whole episode that it takes a lot for Donna to say “Valerie is my friend.”
As a David and Donna shipper for life, I find David and Valerie easier to stomach than Gina and David later on — but no matter what, it must have been hard for Donna to say those words after learning that Valerie slept with Ray multiple times and also just kissed one of her exes.
Let’s shift gears to Dylan and Toni because “Speechless” is right in the middle of their relationship and damn is it hard to watch.
I’m a firm believer that if Dylan could not have Brenda then Toni is his other soul mate. So, it is hard to watch her defend her father at every turn when Dylan is just trying to tell her the truth.

I also love my dad, so I want to understand where Toni is coming from. But her father is so awful there is just no understanding it. I suppose he shields her from it all but it’s so hard not to yell at the screen, “Run Antonia. Run to Vegas and elope with Dylan and stay far, far away from your daddy forever.”
Alas, that is not canon. So, I’ll watch what actually happens and write about my feels later.
Until that fateful night, I must say it’s almost comical watching Dylan and Anthony pull guns on each other in the middle of a restaurant. Can’t you both just get along for the woman you love? Sigh.

Notes:
- I do think it’s still kind of fun and unique to hear characters’ thoughts in their head rather than using dialogue.
- Can we not call each other sluts, though?
- If I have to choose someone for Brandon it’s Susan, tbh.
