The Resident Review: Hope In The Unseen (Season 4 Episode 12)
There is hope to be had and growth to be desired on The Resident Season 4 Episode 12, “Hope In The Unseen.”
It is a unique change of pace to go to a patient’s house with Nic and Conrad, but the rest of this plot is severely uninspired. If Nic is going to miss her spa day and the start of her maternity leave, curmudgeon Pete is not the patient to do that for.
Even though the last scene of the episode is sweet, we are robbed of an episode full of domestic moments, which we all need sometimes.
Then again, giving Conrad and Nic a patient worth caring about would use up all of the empathy we need to spare for Rose. It’s just that ever since a friend pointed out to me that CoNic is the couple with the least depth on The Resident, I can’t help but agree.

Rose does need every bit of our strength and attention. Dr. Cain may be busy, but he’s also avoiding her. It strengthens the argument that Devon and Rose have better chemistry. However, it is fascinating to watch Cain care about someone.
Speaking of that, the scene where Cain convinces Rose to continue treatment would be even more emotional with the right music behind it. Taylor Swift’s “Exile” is a great song but despite being a ballad, it is too powerful for such a subtle moment. The music doesn’t match the moment there at all.
Similarly, it makes no sense that The Raptor demands to keep Leela as a student.
It’s refreshing to watch Bell teach her, first and foremost because the character growth from the jerk Bell is during Season 1 to the patient teacher he is now is quite a sight.
Leela is choosing not to disclose her disability to many people, but it is awesome to watch her respond to Bell as a teacher. Understandably, she is staying quiet because that is her right and she doesn’t want pity. She’s also entitled to find the best teacher for her, and it is not The Raptor right now.

The poor guy is a mess and it is frustrating to watch everyone excuse him because of his mom’s cancer when we all know that the reason he’s a grumpy dinosaur lately is that Mina is gone.
Something about the suspense behind his mom’s acceptance for targeted chemo does not land. I know there is hope for her all episode, so I can’t use her illness as an excuse for him.
Thankfully, he apologizes to Leela. So, speaking of hope, maybe AJ will abandon his funk soon.
Leela is the best element of the episode between the scenes where she stands up to Dr. Austin, learns with Dr. Bell, and screams in the supply closet with Dr. Kitt Voss.
She has zero scenes with Devon and it should stay that way. They’re both Indian and he knows her dyslexia secret, but that is no formula for undeniable chemistry. Just let an intern learn for at least a season!

Doctor’s Notes
- I care about Rose as a character but I am not on the edge of my seat, worried about her health watching this episode.
- The Resident‘s ongoing theme that medicine is business makes a strong appearance.
- Billie is not adding much of anything to the story right now.

I have to disagree with you about your CoNic comment this couple has a lot of depth. And of course we all would love to see the sweet moments as a spa day or massage think the comments would be then that they are boring. CoNic always thinks of their patients first that is what they love to do and they work great together. I think we are not robbed about the sweet stuff we are robbed of how Nic survived her PTSD and her therapy sessions.
I agree Leela was the best of this episode I love her and I hope she will not end up right away with Devon.
I don’t care about Rose all she does is taking screentime from others like Kit and Bell and I hate that they put her up with Cain a men who should have been fired long time ago bc what he have done with his patients is despicable. And what he promised Rose that he won’t let her suffer is that even legal in Atlanta.
The Resident‘s ongoing theme that medicine is business makes a strong appearance. I agree It is what happend in the real world.
Billie is not adding much of anything to the story right now. Agree again she is annoying and her and Cain are a waste of time
