Legacies Review: One Day You Will Understand (Season 3 Episode 13)

Legacies, Reviews

Landon has a rough conversation with Hope, and the truth about Cleo’s existence and connection to Malivore is answered on Legacies Season 3 Episode 13, “One Day You Will Understand.”

Things have hit a boiling point for Cleo as Alaric enlists the help of Josie and Kaleb to determine what he should do. Should Cleo be free, or is sending her back to a prison world the right move?

If it was up to Alaric, there’s no question that Cleo would have already been locked away without any hesitation. However, he knows that it would more than likely cause an uproar and is trying to change his ways of doing before thinking, so he asks for advice from the students.

As mentioned in previous reviews, Cleo is such an interesting character, and it’s thrilling to get to learn more about her and how she’s come to this point. On “One Day You Will Understand,” we get to see her origin story, and her connection to Malivore came about, but I want to continue to learn about her past.

Up until this point, it’s been pretty clear that Hope is one of the most powerful supernatural creatures at the school, Josie and Lizzie coming in behind her. But, with Cleo’s abilities to create new life and the control she has over her magic, it’s possible she could give Hope a run for her money.

Cleo comes from a long line of witches who have special abilities given to their seventh daughters, making them a muse. This is the unique ability Malivore is after, forcing whoever he takes as hostage to create monsters for him to feed on.

Family is an essential factor in most people’s lives, but for Cleo, her grandmother is everything to her, which is why she sacrifices herself to Malivore to save her. It’s clear that Cleo has never been a villain and the beginning of her hero story started when she was a small child in 1464 AD. Since then, her only mission in life has been to destroy Malivore.

It’s exciting to think about Landon and Cleo working together to defeat Malivore. Still, I feel like it’s a tad bit ridiculous not to have a conversation with Hope beforehand. Cleo and Hope are obviously not on the best terms at the moment, but I think that there should’ve been a conversation between the two before she leaves the school for good.

Hope activating her vampire side to become full tribrid is a monumental moment, but if spoken to and approached the correct way, I think that Hope might come around. The only thing she wants more than Malivore to be erased from existence is Landon to be okay.

It’s enthusiastic to think that Cleo and Landon can come up with a way to defeat Malivore on their own, but people have tried for centuries to do so and failed time after time. Hope is the only way to bring him down for good, so eventually, I feel like they’re going to have to team up with her again no matter what.

Cleo and Landon are a duo that I’m most definitely looking forward to watching work together. With Cleo’s magical abilities and Landon’s brand new fighting attitude, there’s no telling what they’re about to get into.

The idea of Finch joining the Salvatore school is exciting for a multitude of reasons. She and Josie will have the ability to get closer in their relationship, Finch will be able to learn more about herself as a werewolf, and we might get to see Finch beat up on Jed some more.

Legacies Season 3 started real child-like, and I wasn’t sure if I would be able to put up with it for the entire season. However, they’ve been picking up the slack and progressing with the storylines. Now, all I need is Lizzie to return so we can potentially get the badass twin sisters back together doing missions.

Favorite Quotes:

  • “Malivore? This bitch is everywhere.” – Kaleb.
  • “You’re sitting up here reading a book about Da Vinci, trying to figure out how the artifact works so that you can lock Cleo away again. And your track record of sending problem kids to prison worlds proves that.” – Kaleb.
  • “I almost killed MG, and then I actually killed Alyssa. You just let me back into the school as if nothing ever happened. If Cleo was your daughter, would you be doing this to her?” – Josie.
  • “I am the son of Malivore. You are the loophole that defeats him. We exist to destroy each other.” – Landon.
