Grey’s Anatomy Renewed for Season 18
It’s official. With Ellen Pompeo signing a new deal, Grey’s Anatomy has been renewed for Season 18 at ABC.
The show’s future has felt uncertain for most of Grey’s Anatomy Season 17, and Ellen Pompeo had also stated in a recent interview with Variety that while they weren’t yet sure when the series would end, this latest season could be it.
Add to that the fact that Meredith Grey’s life has been hanging in the balance for most of the season, and we’ve seen many beloved characters return in what feels like closure, the question of a renewal felt like a big one.

Season 17 has also said goodbye to two more of its doctors: Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gionniotti) has exited the series, and Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) will be leaving after this season as well.
But fans can rest easy that this unusual season won’t be the show’s farewell. We’re getting at least one more.
In addition to Ellen Pompeo’s new deal, both Chandra Wilson and James Pickens Jr. have reportedly signed new contracts.

Grey’s Anatomy’s spinoff series, Station 19, has also been renewed for its fifth season. Krista Vernoff will remain the showrunner for both series.
“The writers, directors, casts and crews of Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19 worked so hard to bring these shows to life this past season,” Vernoff said in a statement. “Keeping each other safe on set while paying tribute to the front-line heroes and first responders has been a challenge and a privilege. I’ve been truly blown away — particularly by our tireless crews — as they reinvented the TV-making wheel. Thank you to ABC and ABC Signature for the support and extraordinary partnership through this unprecedented season. We are so grateful for the opportunity to tell more stories.”
