9-1-1: Lone Star Season Finale Review: Dust to Dust (Season 2 Episode 14)
A dust storm over Austin brings its own problems, as well as a new storm on the horizon for the 126.
9-1-1: Lone Star Season 2 Episode 14, “Dust to Dust,” proves why this makes everything hang on pins and needles.
Finding out the 126 has been separated is never a good thing, in fact, it’s a disastrous thing. Poor Mateo is left to fend for himself at the 129 while everyone else is at the 122.
One of the best surprises to come out of these assignments is Mateo. He takes the opportunity to grab the bull by the horns, not only triaging the crisis at hand but also sticking it to his new captain.

If you had asked any of us at the start of the season which firefighter would be the calmest under the pressure of a dust storm, Mateo wouldn’t have made the top of our lists.
However, it’s great for his character development because it shows that he is well worth his salt as part of the 126.
Mateo can be both a leader and a follower, as demonstrated when he can create order amongst the chaos. At first, he freezes up, but then he becomes a whole new man and barks orders as if he is Captain Strand himself.
After “Dust to Dust,” my money is dead set on Mateo running a firehouse someday. Even better than his rise is the support his fellow firehouse family gives him. It’s beautiful to see all these personalities come together and give Mateo his recognition without any fuss or fight.
The 126 is a solid example of what a found family is all about, which is the magic of 9-1-1: Lone Star.

While it is interesting to see the 126 bond with other houses in the AFD, we don’t want that to be a permanent thing. This is what has everyone so worried about Season 3 and Billy’s ultimate plan as the new Deputy Chief.
The minute we start to kind of like and trust this guy, he pulls the rug out. It’s what makes him a fantastic foil for Captain Strand and the 126 as a whole.
Unfortunately, this time there is no going back from what he’s done.
Captain Strand artfully created a plan that could help slash the firefighting budget without making big waves and instead of using it, Billy has decided to shut down an entire house. Talk about a dick move, but it’s perfect for drama in the coming season.
Watching Strand cock back and punch the guy is so satisfying for all of us. It’s going to be fun to watch these two spar one another with their words come Season 3.

The other surprise of the night is Tommy Vega. Honestly, when she decides to take a step back, it’s a move everyone can see coming.
Therefore, the more surprising move for Tommy comes when her daughters convince her that there is nowhere else she needs to be more than with her team saving people. It’s a beautiful moment between a mama and her babies that can’t be understated.
Tommy has been a wonderful addition to the 126 this season. Her presence has inspired T.K. to find his true path. Something that should be celebrated and appreciated more than it actually is.
With the house’s future up in the air, it is comforting to know the team won’t be losing Tommy on top of everything else.
