Superstore Review: Lowell Anderson (Season 6 Episode 13)
Superstore‘s end is nigh. There are clear reminders everywhere. But since it’s ending, they may as well get one last retail giant joke in!
On Superstore Season 6 Episode 13, “Lowell Anderson,” the son of the Cloud 9 founder visits the store and the employees try to impress him. His off the wall ideas are wacky and out of touch, which makes for a hilarious episode. As Cheyenne put it, his ideas are “fully whack.”
This obvious lampoon of the Wal-Mart dynasty and Walton family hits all the right notes.

One of the best illustrations is Glenn’s admiration for the man who literally killed his father’s small business. Glenn’s conservative leanings are only known to long-time viewers, but his story is relevant and timely. Initially, Glenn licks the man’s boots, which is simply telling, both in how Superstore views the US’s retail overlords and how humanity responds to them.
If you’re imagining there won’t be many outside guest stars left, you’d likely be correct. Dave Foley takes on the Lowell Anderson role and fully commits to the boorish character.
But of course the real comedy comes in the reactions to Anderson’s out-of-the-box (literally) thinking. Cheyenne is clearly smarter than the man, and the bit about dog food suggests he has some issues.

It is nice to see Glenn stand up for himself. Long overdue!
“Lowell Anderson” is the last truly standalone story Superstore tells, coming in the antepenultimate installment so they can do the two episode finale all at once. But many breadcrumbs are dropped and dominoes are set up to fall in the final episodes.
For instance — Dina spends much of “Lowell Anderson” trying to break it off with Brian. Superstore has been building to Dina and Garrett as endgame for some time, but the execution is obvious and a little awkward at times. And Dina and Garrett “getting together” is almost too in character for them.

Then of course, the finale cameo comes earlier than expected from none other than (spoiler alert) Amy herself! Cheyenne, now the smartest person in the store, calls Amy concerned about Cloud 9 stores closing. Her return is the obvious final piece as they setup Superstore taking a final bow.
All of that said, “Lowell Anderson” is a funny antepenultimate installment of the series, but mostly it looks ahead to the impending end.

A few stray thoughts:
- Sandra and Jonah doing a Facebook stalking deep-dive on Amy? Absolutely hysterical. Sandra is a queen, and she is all of us.
- “This morning I watched a squirrel unwrap a Reese’s cup for like, an hour.” “Glenn, you have to get TikTok, that’s literally all it is.”
- Glenn getting his wild hairstyle during the workday is an A+ bit.
- People with multiple Facebook accounts, better beware! Sandra’s on to you!
- This is my second to last review of Superstore, ever! A bittersweet end. I look forward to sharing my thoughts on the two-part finale next week!
