Legacies Review: Salvatore: The Musical! (Season 3 Episode 3)

Legacies, Reviews

Young love flourishes on Legacies Season 3 Episode 3, “Salvatore: The Musical!,” when a sprite takes the school over, unbeknown to anyone there. Meanwhile, Alyssa takes her cynical ways up a notch.

Musical episodes are always top tier, in my opinion, but “Salvatore: The Musical!” takes the cake for one of my top favorites. On top of the episode’s theater aspect, we also didn’t have to see any death or disappointment, well, at least until the last few moments. It’s rare to have a fun, heartfelt episode that doesn’t focus on failure or some sort of sadness.

Instead of death and turmoil, we get to watch the Salvatore school come together as a whole to put on a beautiful piece of work and watch them reconnect in a way they didn’t know they could. Without the sprite’s interjection into the situation, who knows what might’ve happened between the students and Hope.

Following the death of Rafael, emotions are at a high between Landon and Hope as they still aren’t talking about their relationship or in general. However, that slowly begins to change as Dr. Goodfellow, the monster in hiding, begins to unpack her emotions stemming from her father. His marvelous idea of having Landon put on a musical is precisely what Hope didn’t know she needed because she’s used to running from super personal situations.

Her disapproval of her family being in the musical for the whole school to see is overshadowing her ability to realize that there wouldn’t be a school for them without her father. As much as she hates being in the spotlight, she always will be. That’s part of her destiny.

However, Landon does push it too far by using lyrics from Klaus’s letter to Hope because that’s not something she wants to share with others.

At first, it seems as if Alyssa may genuinely have feelings for MG because he’s the only one that she warns about the monster being sent to the school. She warns him to get out while he can because he won’t remember finding the monster anyway, but that doesn’t stop MG.

Unfortunately for MG, it turns out that Alyssa is also warming up her acting abilities and only wanted to lure him to the necromancer for a ritual they need to perform. She’s growing into her evil form slowly but nicely.

I do have to worry for what will happen to MG because of how twisted the necromancer is, but I can’t say I’m upset that Alyssa is apart of it. This type of cynical, twisted manipulation is the kind of action I want to see if Alyssa is going all out in her villain arc this season.

It’s not a secret that she was known for being wicked at school, so it feels like she’s been playing it safe up until this point. I can’t wait to see her when she has more power in her grasp. I think a nice twist would be for her to take out the necromancer herself, acquiring the dark magic he has for herself.

Josie and Jade’s connection makes me wish Jade was a main character because the two of them are absolutely adorable. Josie and her would make a cute couple, but more importantly, it would be something nice for Josie. She’s had a lot to deal with since the black magic incident, so for her to come back and not immediately be thrown in the same routine again would be nice.

I would also like for Jade to stay on simply because I love LGBTQ representation, and the more of it to go around, the merrier we can all be. I’ve liked Jade’s character since being introduced last season anyway, so this would be the perfect opportunity to have her be a recurring character, at least for a few episodes.
