Apple TV+ Previews 2021 Originals
Fresh off a slew of Critics Choice and Golden Globe nominations, Apple TV+ has announced their 2021 release plans for their returning originals at this year’s Television Critics Association Winter 2021 Press tour.
In addition to setting dates for shows returning for their second season, Apple TV+ revealed a list of new titles and films set to launch later this year.
Some of the most acclaimed projects from Apple TV+ that will return for a sophomore run this year are The Morning Show, starring Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, and Billy Crudup, and Ted Lasso, starring Jason Sudeikis.
If you haven’t watched either, this is your chance to catch up! Both are among the hottest series currently available. The announcement indicated both shows would be returning this summer.

More Apple TV+ originals plotting their return for 2021 include Jason Momoa’s See Season 2, Central Park Season 2, and Octavia Spencer’s Truth Be Told Season 2, which added Kate Hudson as a series regular for the upcoming season.
Additionally, mystery-drama Home Before Dark Season 2 is set to return later this year, and video-game comedy Mythic Quest Season 2 will premiere on May 7, 2021.
The new season announcements join Hailee Steinfeld’s Dickinson, space-race drama For All Mankind, and M. Night Shyamalan’s Servant, as originals who launched their second season in January/February 2021.
The streamer also announced a couple of new original series that are coming in 2021.

First up is The Mosquito Coast, starring Justin Theroux (The Leftovers) and Melissa George (Alias). Based on the book (actually written by Theroux’s uncle!) and the 1986 Golden Globe-nominated film, The Mosquito Coast follows a family uprooted by their idealist patriarch to Latin America. The series is set to premiere on April 30, 2021.
A new series announced for a summer debut is Schmigadoon!, described as a “star-studded musical comedy series” starring SNL’s Cecily Strong and Keegan-Michael Key, and executive produced by the SNL bossman himself, Lorne Michaels. A number of Broadway vets are set to appear, which means the talent will be off the charts exciting.
Other series set to launch this summer include Physical and Lisey’s Story.
Physical stars Rose Byrne and is described as an 80’s style dramedy, full of aerobics, big hair, and great costumes. Lisey’s Story is a limited series from Stephen King and J.J. Abrams, featuring Julianne Moore, Clive Owen, and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

In an almost literally blink-or-you-miss-it moment in their announcement video, Apple TV+ also previewed a handful of other new upcoming series: Mr. Corman, Foundation, and The Shrink Next Door, featuring the talents of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lee Pace, Jared Harris, Will Ferrel, Kathryn Han, and Paul Rudd.
Apple TV+ even has original films in production and has acquired the rights to many upcoming independent hits. Two films launching soon are Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry and the Russo Brothers’ Cherry, starring Tom Holland, bowing February 26, 2021, and March 12, 2021, respectively.
While dates have not been set for all of the teased new seasons and series, it’s likely many (if not all!) will launch sometime this year.
