This was the week for renewals, as several shows were given new seasons. We also got updates on famous franchises and familiar heroes.

Let’s dive into some of this week’s news.

‘Bridgerton’ Renewed for Season 2
  • To the surprise of no one, Netflix has renewed its latest hit, Bridgerton.
  • Based on Julia Quinn’s novels, the Shonda Rhimes produced period drama debuted to huge numbers and social media buzz. Season 1 was seen by 63 million homes in its first month.
  • According to The Hollywood Reporter, Season 2 production is set for London in the spring and will be based on book two, “The Viscount Who Loved Me.”

Brie Larson Set for ‘Lessons in Chemistry’ at AppleTV+
  • Academy Award winner Brie Larson is heading to TV to executive produce and star in Lessons in Chemistry for AppleTV+.
  •  TV Line reports the official synopsis features Larson as “Elizabeth Zott, whose dream of being a scientist is put on hold in a society deeming that women belong in the domestic sphere, not the professional one. When Elizabeth finds herself pregnant, alone, and fired from her lab, she accepts a job as a host on a TV cooking show, and sets out to teach a nation of overlooked housewives — and the men who are suddenly listening — a lot more than recipes.”
  • Lessons in Chemistry takes place in the ’60s and is based on Bonnie Garmus’ novel.
  • The project has a straight to series order from AppleTV+.

‘Snowpiercer’ Gets Early Season 3 Pick up Ahead of Season 2 Premiere
  • According to Variety, TNT is celebrating the Season 2 premiere of Snowpiercer by renewing it for Season 3.
  • The series, which stars Jennifer Connelly, Daveed Diggs, and Sean Bean, follows the last of humanity living on board a 1001 car train that circles the frozen Earth.
  • Season 2 of Snowpiercer premieres Monday, Jan. 25 on TNT.

Almost Paradise to Stream on IMDb TV
  • The crime series starring Christian Kane and Samantha Richelle will be available to stream on IMDb TV beginning February 1st.
  • Almost Paradise originally premiered on WGN America in March 2020.
  • Dean Devlin, CEO of Electric Entertainment, said the following in a statement: “We have established a wonderful relationship with Amazon’s IMDb TV. This marks our third partnership with the free streaming service — the first being the re-imagining of the hit TV series Leverage 2.0, and secondly, the streaming of all three seasons of The Outpost. We can’t be more pleased with how our relationship is blossoming and look forward to more opportunities with the rapidly growing AVOD service.”

HBO Developing Another ‘Game of Thrones’ Prequel
  • HBO is still trying to replicate the success of Game of Thrones. The network is in the early development stage on another prequel.
  • Variety reports the project is based on “Tales of Dunk and Egg,” three novellas by George R. R. Martin, that follow Ser Duncan the Tall and Aegon V. Targaryen.
  • “The Hedge Knight,” “The Sworn Sword,” and “The Mystery Knight” takes place 90 years before “A Song of Ice and Fire.”
  • This is the latest in a long list of Game of Thrones prequels HBO has worked on. House of the Dragon, which follows the history of the Targaryens, is currently scheduled for 2022.

Savannah Welch Joins ‘Titans’ as Barbara Gordon
  • Titans has cast its Commissioner Gordon. Savannah Welch joins the series in Season 3 as former Batgirl Barbara Gordon.
  • The show is moving from San Francisco to Gotham City, so viewers can expect more Batman Easter eggs.
  • Entertainment Weekly reports that Barbara and Dick will renew their romance and “crime-fighting partnership.”
  • With DC Universe shut down, Season 3 of Titans will stream on HBO Max, with Seasons 1 and 2 now available.
