This month marks the return of some hilarious shows, Dickinson, Search Party, and Cobra Kai. If you’re more in the mood for something a bit more thrilling and/or action-packed, you can check out WandaVision, Outside the Wire, and Losing Alice.

Here are our picks for what to stream in January:

Cobra Kai Season 3 (Netflix) – January 1

After initially canceled by YouTube, Netflix is bringing Cobra Kai back for a third season. Season 3 features the return of Tamlyn Tomita as Kumiko and Yuji Okumoto as Daniel’s Karate Kid 2 nemesis, Chozen. Cobra Kai Season 3 debuts on January 8 on Netflix.

Series Description: Cobra Kai Season 3 finds everyone reeling in the aftermath of the violent high school brawl between their dojos, which has left Miguel in a precarious condition. While Daniel searches for answers in his past and Johnny seeks redemption, Kreese further manipulates his vulnerable students with his own vision of dominance. The soul of the Valley is at stake, and the fate of every student and sensei hangs in the balance.

Pieces of a Woman (Netflix) – January 7

Pieces of a Woman takes a look at how one couple’s lives change after a horrible tragedy. Pieces of a Woman drops on January 7 on Netflix.

Film Description: Martha (Vanessa Kirby) and Sean (Shia LaBeouf) are a Boston couple on the verge of parenthood whose lives change irrevocably when a home birth ends in unimaginable tragedy. Thus begins a yearlong odyssey for Martha, who must navigate her grief while working through fractious relationships with her husband and her domineering mother (Ellen Burstyn), along with the publicly vilified midwife (Molly Parker), whom she must face in court. Directed by Kornél Mundruczó (WHITE GOD, winner of the 2014 Prix Un Certain Regard Award), written by Kata Wéber, and executive produced by Martin Scorsese, Pieces of a Woman is a deeply personal, searing, and ultimately transcendent story of a woman learning to live alongside her loss.

Dickinson Season 2 (Apple TV+) – January 8

This season, Emily ponders whether or not fame is something she truly desires after Sue pushes her to start publishing her work. Dickinson Season 2 premieres on January 8 on Apple TV +.

Series Description: In the second season, Emily Dickinson is pulled out of her private literary life and thrust into the public eye, while struggling with the sense that the pursuit of fame might be a dangerous game for her to play.

Everyone is Doing Great (Hulu) – January 13

Created by One Tree Hill alums James Lafferty and Stephen Colletti, Everyone is Doing Great was originally a crowd-funded series that made its debut back at ATX Television Festival in 2018. Everyone is Doing Great premieres on January 13 on Hulu.

Series Description: Seth and Jeremy enjoyed success from ‘Eternal’, a hit television vampire drama. Five years after their show has ended, they lean on each other as they struggle to reclaim their previous level of success and relevance, awkwardly navigating the perils of life and love amidst a humorously painful coming of age.

Search Party Season 4 (HBO Max) – January 14

Search Party is back! This season, they are searching for Dory, who’s being held captive by Chip. Search Party Season 4 debuts on January 14 on HBO Max.

Series Description: In Search Party season four, Dory (Alia Shawkat) is held prisoner by her psychotic stalker Chip (Cole Escola), who is determined to make Dory believe that they are best friends. Meanwhile, Portia (Meredith Hagner) is starring in a film about the trial, although not as herself; Elliott (John Early) has switched party lines to become a far-right conservative talk show host; and Drew (John Reynolds) is trying to escape his dark past by working as a costumed cast member in a theme park. As the friends begin to connect the dots that Dory might not be touring Europe as her faked social media suggests, they must decide whether to put their traumatic pasts behind them and once again become a search party – but this time, for Dory. Joining the show’s stellar guest stars this season are Susan Sarandon, Busy Philipps, Ann Dowd, Griffin Dunne and Lillias White, as well as R.L. Stine in a cameo role.

WandaVision (Disney+) – January 15

It’s finally time for new MCU content on Disney+. WandaVision is a six-episode series that focuses on Wanda and Vision’s seemingly idyllic sitcom life where nothing is what it seems. WandaVision debuts on January 15 on Disney+.

Series Description: Marvel Studios presents WandaVision, a blend of classic television and the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) — two super-powered beings living idealized suburban lives — begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems.

One Night in Miami… (Amazon Prime Video) – January 15

Directed by Regina King, One Night in Miami… is based on the award-winning play that details a fictional account of what happened one night in 1964 when Cassius Clay, Malcolm X, Sam Cooke, and Jim Brown all gathered together to celebrate Clay’s victory. One Night in Miami… debuts on January 15 on Amazon Prime Video.

Film Description: On one incredible night in 1964, four icons of sports, music, and activism gathered to celebrate one of the biggest upsets in boxing history. When underdog Cassius Clay, soon to be called Muhammad Ali, (Eli Goree), defeats heavy weight champion Sonny Liston at the Miami Convention Hall, Clay memorialized the event with three of his friends: Malcolm X (Kingsley Ben-Adir), Sam Cooke (Leslie Odom Jr.) and Jim Brown (Aldis Hodge).

From the studio that brought us The Old Guard, Outside the Wire is set in the future and follows an android officer and drone pilot as they try to locate a doomsday device. Outside the Wire premieres on January 15 on Netflix.

Film Description: Set in the future, Harp (Damson Idris), a drone pilot, is sent into a deadly militarized zone where he finds himself working for Leo (Anthony Mackie), an android officer, tasked to locate a doomsday device before the insurgents do. Outside the Wire is directed by Mikael Håfström.

Adapted from Winx Club, Fate: The Winx Saga takes place at Alfea College, a magical boarding school in the Otherworld where fairies learn to master their powers. Fate: The Winx Saga premieres on January 22 on Netflix.

Losing Alice (Apple TV+) – January 22

Losing Alice is a psychological thriller that explores that follows Alice, a 48-year-old female film director, who has a brief encounter with Sophie, a 24-year-old screenwriter femme fatale, that leads to obsession. Losing Alice premieres on January 22 on Apple TV+.

Series DescriptionLosing Alice is a thrilling cinematic journey that uses flashbacks and flash-forwards in a satisfyingly complex narrative that takes the viewer through the conscious and subconscious of its protagonist’s mind. The series follows Alice (played by Ayelet Zurer), a 48-year-old female film director, who feels irrelevant since raising her family. After a brief encounter on the train, she becomes obsessed with a 24-year-old screenwriter femme fatale, Sophie (played by Lihi Kornowski), and eventually surrenders her moral integrity in order to achieve power, relevance and success. If you’re in the mood for a chilling, suspenseful tale, then look no further. The Sister, the four-part series, debuts on Hulu on January 22.

Series Description: How far would you go to keep a secret? One rainy evening, Nathan is surprised by an unwelcome face from the past. Nathan has never been able to forget the worst night of his life: a party that led to the sudden, shocking death of a young woman.
