Throwback Thursday: ‘Rick and Morty,’ ‘Project Runway,’ and The Gallavich Reunion

Shameless, Stranger Things, Throwback Thursday

As 2020 winds down we look back and realize just how much has happened in the land of TV this year alone. However, the purpose of Throwback Thursday is to highlight all the previous years of content from November 29 to December 4.

There may not be an overabundance of content during this weird transition period between fall and winter, but what is there gives us all the feels.

In the world of TV moments, we have a wedding, a reunion, and a basketball championship. More than likely “basketball championship” makes your mind automatically turn to One Tree Hill, and you would be correct.

And any Shameless Gallavich fan knows the exact date that their beloved ship reunited during Season 7. The wedding may be a bit more obscure, but still just as important for the characters of ER

Fasten your seatbelts…it’s going to be a bumpy ride through TV history.

Major TV Moments:
Neela and Gallant Get Married (ER Season 12 Episode 9, “I Do”) (December 1, 2005)

Neela and Gallant ER Wedding

In later seasons of this medical drama, Dr. Neela Rosgotra is one of the show’s top surgeons. Her no-nonsense attitude is reminiscent of Dr. Benton from the earlier seasons.

So when she slowly falls for a fellow doctor, Dr. Michael Gallant fans paid attention. On “I Do,” Neela surprises fans further when she impulsively accepts Gallant’s spontaneous marriage proposal.

The last-minute ceremony is quick and small, but it defines Neela for the rest of the series. This moment is when she starts to let loose a little bit more and chooses to be more than just a doctor. Gallant helps to shape Neela into the compassionate woman she becomes by the end of the series.

Ravens Win! (One Tree Hill Season 4 Episode 9, “Some You Give Away”) (November 29, 2006)

OneTreeHill Championship

For the first time in years, the Tree Hill Ravens win the State Championship in basketball. This is all thanks in part to Nathan’s performance — going against Daunte and choosing not to throw the game.

Who knew finding out he was going to have a son would cause such a major change of heart for Nathan. Too bad this change creates a problem for Haley after the game.

On the wider scope of the game, Lucas and Peyton have their own monumental moment. Lucas gives his famous “It’s you Peyton” speech and gets the girl.

“You’re under my skin man. The f**k can I do?” (Shameless Season 7 Episode 10, “Ride or Die”) (December 4, 2016)

Shameless Gallavich

When Ian and Mickey broke up seemingly for good at the end of Season 5, and Noel Fisher left the show soon after, fans were not expecting there to ever be a happy ending for their favorite couple. So, when Mickey escapes prison in Season 7 everyone held their breath.

The scene under the bleachers where Ian sees the bedraggled Mickey come out of the shadows is just as heart-stopping for us as it was for Ian. Then Mickey utters those magic words and we too are wondering “the f**k can we do?”

What makes this reunion even better is that Shameless shows just how difficult of a decision it is for Ian to drop everything and follow Mickey for a life on the run. It shows growth for Ian, and that his heart and soul will always yearn for that bond he has with Mickey.
