Preview — Swamp Thing Season 1 Episode 7: Brilliant Disguise
Everything is not what it seems on Swamp Thing Season 1 Episode 7, “Brilliant Disguise.” The residents of Marais are desperate to learn more about the swamp, and that leads them down dark paths.
The swamp’s rot and poison continues to grow at a rapid rate, putting everyone in Marais at risk. Now that Swamp Thing is restored to his human appearance, for now, Alec can share what he knows about the swamp with Abby more directly.
Of course this can’t go easily, because things take a turn for the dark and twisted when Abby’s life is threatened. Alec’s newly acquired powers are put to the test when he has to do what he can to save Abby.
Even in all of this uncertainty and general creepiness, it’s still relevant to mention how exciting it is to see Alec and Abby interacting again. Sure, Abby stands by Alec in his Swamp Thing form, but now they don’t have to hide in the shadows and behind trees.
Then again, the duo will probably have to find some other hiding spot, because most of Marais is under the impression that Alec Holland did not survive the explosion on his boat.
The promo video suggests this hiding spot is the very obvious and predictable location of Alec’s lab. Hopefully Avery doesn’t have any men snooping around there when Alec’s trying to save Abby’s life.
Meanwhile, The Sunderland couple continues to live suspicious and separate lives during “Brilliant Disguise.” Lucilia leads Avery into the swamp under a false pretense, which goes with the rest of their deceitful relationship.
Elsewhere, Maria meets with a new character on Swamp Thing named Nathan Ellery. Obviously he has shady dealings since he’s the leader of a shadowy finance group. None of that sounds good, but it all makes since for Maria. .
No matter how fast the swamp evolves and fights back, some things will never change in Marais.

Episode description: Still taking on the human appearance of Alec Holland (Andy Bean), Swamp Thing (Derek Mears) guides Abby (Crystal Reed) to an area of the swamp blighted with the encroaching rot, but, when her life is threatened, he must use all of his still-developing powers to save her.
Meanwhile, Lucilia (Jennifer Beals) leads Avery (Will Patton) out into the swamp under a false pretense, while Maria (Virginia Madsen) meets with Nathan Ellery (guest star Michael Beach), the leader of the shadowy finance group known as The Conclave.
The episode was directed by Alexis Ostrander and written by Conway Preston & Rob Fresco.
