Preview — His Dark Materials Season 2 Premiere: The City Of Magpies
Last we left this TV reinterpretation of Philip Pullman’s fantasy novels on His Dark Materials Season 1 Episode 8, “Betrayal,” Lyra and her daemon Pan stood at the site where the fabric between dimensions has split open by her father, Lord Asriel, who murdered her best friend Roger right before her eyes to do it.
With almost all the good things tying her to this world all but gone, and the threat of the ever-menacing Mrs. Coulter hovering over her, crossing over into a totally unknown world isn’t necessarily the terrible idea it’d normally be. Which is exactly what she’s done.
This is where we pick up on His Dark Materials Season 2 Episode 1, “The City of Magpies.” As a result of the tragic events of the previous season, a meeting of two individuals with intertwined destinies that has long been teased is finally made a reality. We also learn a little more about the mysterious “floating” city of Cittàgazze and all the oddities that permeate it.
On this side of the multiverse, the witches prepare for a coming battle while Mrs. Coulter is on a warpath of her own.
