10 TV Characters Whose Faces We’ve Never Seen (and 5 Whose Voices We’ve Never Heard)
There is obviously no shortage of characters on TV screens, or else it wouldn’t really be TV now, would it?
But every so often, there comes a character that, for one contrived reason or the other, has their face obscured, is perpetually absent, or is left without a voice.
Instances like these are interesting in their peculiarity because scattered among the millions of regular characters we see every day like needles in a haystack, these characters inevitably stand out from the pack, though not necessarily for the best of reasons.
Settle in as we run down a list of 10 such characters who have never graced us with their visages, and 6 whose voices have never been or are rarely heard!
Characters Whose Faces We’ve Never Seen:
1. Godspeed (The Flash)
Whenever a mysterious speed demon shows up with motives that prove uncrackable for Team Flash (until it isn’t), it almost always boils down to “speedster needs more speed”, or as one of the fake Godspeeds put it “…requires infinite velocity”. It’s a formula that has been rehashed so many times on The Flash it’s getting a bit tiring.
Anyhow, the latest lightning-fast villain on the docket is Godspeed, a speedster (if you can’t already tell from the name) who prefers to create drone copies of himself and set them loose on Central City to cause chaos seemingly at random. If anyone of these copies shares the same looks as the real Godspeed or not is still unknown.
His only purpose at the moment seems to be breaking up the tedium that starts to set in whenever the storyline starts to focus more on the season’s overarching big bad before he quickly disappears and is never brought up again.
Although, all hope isn’t lost yet as he is set to play a more significant part in the upcoming seventh season, so there is a real chance that we’ll get to see the face of the person behind the mayhem.
2. Mammy Two Shoes (Tom and Jerry)
This particular character was borne of some pretty racist standards that were prevalent in the early days of this beloved cartoon. Designed in the image of a “Mammy,” the woman always had an apron on as she went about her duties as a maid in the house Tom and Jerry lived in.
She was also prone to the occasional offensive line or two. In all the years (12) the character had been on-air, the most we got to see of her face was a few frames in an obscure short until the character was pulled from the main show after severe backlash.
3. The Narrator (Jane The Virgin)

An argument can be made that we’ve actually seen the narrator after the reveal that it was an adult Mateo, Jane’s adorable son, who was reading from his mom’s novel. It’s a solid argument, but let me offer a counterpoint: Adult Mateo isn’t the same as child Mateo, and most importantly, we’ve never seen what adult Mateo looks like.
And dare I say, it would’ve been to everyone’s ultimate satisfaction to see him make an appearance because the omniscient narrator is pretty much the only universally-loved character on the show.
4. Black Noir (The Boys)

Black noir from The Boys could have easily slotted into the B part of this list as we’ve got no idea what he sounds like bar a few sobs after he found out the truth about how supes are created by Vought. But, the fact that no one has seen what he looks like adds to his enigma factor more than his silence does.
Despite almost always being in the background, he has proven to be The Seven’s most reliable member, carrying out orders down to the letter.
5. Bane (Harley Quinn)
Of everything we expected of this unique show, few could have seen this one coming: Emo Bane!
Obviously, Bane’s mask on Harley Quinn serves a practical purpose and only adds to his mystique as a bonus, but in a show where we’ve seen Joker without his clown makeup on for a significant amount of episodes, we have a sneaky feeling Bane might be next in line to get the same treatment.
6. Charlie (Charlie’s Angels)
The original Charlie’s Angels TV series, the spinoff movies, the series reboot, and the quasi-sequel movie all have one thing in common: the mystery that is the identity of Charlie.
Technically, the Angels in the original show got to see Charlie in the flesh in the series finale, but we never did and hence the solidification of the character as the de facto mental image when one thinks of characters whose physical absence is almost a defining trait.
7. Debbie Wolowitz (The Big Bang Theory)

Making fun of her shrill voice and her constant yelling at Howard became something of a running gag on The Big Bang Theory, and the fact she rarely showed up on screen despite sometimes being in the same room as the rest of the characters became a gag within a gag. The neverending questions and intrusiveness made Howard’s home life unbearable
Unfortunately, she died before the show ended, as a reflection of the real world passing of the actress who portrayed on screen.
8. Quaithe of the Shadow (Game Of Thrones)
Unless you possess a steel-trap memory, you’ll have to think hard — all the way back to the second season — to remember where you saw this character. Her appearance was brief, but she managed to send Ser Jorah running to Daenerys’ side just in time to stab one of Pyat Pree’s duplicates in the back.
She is a shadow binder from Asshai who possesses powers of clairvoyance and, apparently, a thing for shiny masks, which I suppose is kinda necessary for her line of work to keep the people guessing.
9. Robin Masters (Magnum P.I)

The mysterious benefactor with seemingly bottomless pockets who employs Higgins as his Majordomo (fancy word for caretaker), which Magnum exploits to no end. Eventually, he transferred ownership to Higgins, but we know very little about him, save for the fact that he’s an author.
Must have been some books he’s sold to be unbothered by his exotic vehicles being wrecked by the people he left in charge of his possessions.
10. Ercole DiMeo (The Sopranos)
The founder and original boss of the DiMeo crime family who, in his heyday, was feared by all. Ercole DiMeo from The Sopranos was already behind bars serving a life sentence by the time the series began, yet even with his diminished influence, his name popped up repeatedly.
Though, surprisingly, no one ever went to see him in prison.
Characters Whose Voices We’ve Never Heard:
1. Kimiko (The Boys)

Kimiko on The Boys lost her ability to speak after the trauma she witnessed as a young woman, with the special sign language she developed with her brother the only means of communication she has.
She has decided to teach it to Frenchie, so, hopefully, we’ll get to see her express herself more freely to the rest of the boys moving forward.
2. The Swedes (The Umbrella Academy)

After Cha Cha was Killed and Hazel left the Temps Commission to live out the rest of his life with Agnes on The Umbrella Academy, The Swedes were drafted in to serve as the agency’s hitmen. They matched and maybe even surpassed ChaCha and Hazel’s level of brutality.
Another added quirk of theirs is their lack of words or sign language. They have supposedly struck up such an understanding that all they require to communicate effectively are looks and glances.
3. Black Bolt (Inhumans)
As an Inhuman, Black Bolt obviously didn’t have his abilities awakened until he came of age and stepped into the terrigenesis chamber. However, since that happened, he has been saddled with a voice that could destroy worlds if he spoke.
He has never uttered a word since that faithful day.
Black Bolt effectively took a vow of silence, not even letting out a whimper when in extreme pain (or pleasure, as the case may be).
4. Norma Romano (Orange Is The New Black)
In the seven seasons we spent with the inmates of Litchfield, none seemed as chill as Norma, who we later learned was in for the murder of her cult leader husband. Due to her severe stammer, she usually prefers to communicate by writing her words down.
On the Orange is the New Black Season 1 finale, she sang a beautiful rendition of “I Saw The Light” without a stutter which is a thing that is common for people with a stammer.
She also screamed in her husband’s face in a flashback scene, before she shoved him off the edge of a cliff and sent him tumbling to his death. Those were the most we ever got out of her.
6. Lai (Warrior)
Lai is basically Ah Toy’s right-hand woman and co-conspirator in her murder sprees. Unlike the other girls that work the brothel, she doesn’t seem all too keen on that line of work.
She prefers to join her mistress out on the streets in the cover of night, slicing throats in dark alleys and buildings as retribution for the abuse she suffered.
That technically makes her, along with Ah Toy and Ah Sahm, serial killers but we also don’t feel particularly bad for any of their victims as they too, more often than not, are committing terrible crimes of their own.
