Filthy Rich Review: Proverbs 20:6 (Season 1 Episode 5)
The Monreaux’s and their associates throw blackmail around like it’s a hot potato on Filthy Rich Season 1 Episode 5, “Proverbs 20:6.”
We could barely keep up with who has the upper hand and control over Virgil Love’s *ahem*… “intimate” tape release.
At the end of the hour, The Ladies’ Table is as good as squashed, and Ginger and Margaret are growling at each other again.

We could hope all day for the complexity that a true alliance would bring but this swift reopening of wounds is entirely expected. All of the betrayal is, in fact, foreshadowed within the episode’s title verse:
Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?- Proverbs 20:6.
There is at least a little bit of complexity in the fact that there are so many mothers acting on behalf of their children in this twisted game.
Yopi just wants fame and fortune for Antonio. Though Tina is being manipulated to hand the tape over to Franklin, thinking from a motherly perspective, she has reason to.
Yopi is on the tape with Virgil. Yopi doesn’t work for Ginger and Tina. So yes, this ultimately puts all of Saint Wagon’s girls in a bit of danger. (I haven’t been aware Sin Wagon’s name officially changed for good.)

But is it noble to risk getting killed to protect your employees or just silly? Has the former Sin Wagon not dealt with scandal before?
Ginger’s possible plan to team up with Luke Taylor and ruin the men with the truth is noble and perhaps the only “right” way to get the truth out.
But since when does blackmail and corruption wait for anyone? The fast move may not be the smartest in the long run, but we don’t blame Tina for giving up the goods.
The 18:20 Club has Ginger tied up, for goodness sake. Ginger is probably too stubborn to admit this, but she’s the only one who really knows there is no time for fact-checking.
Margaret is no saint, and it’s hard to determine if she cares about even her biological kids a little bit. But if anyone deserves protection it’s Eric, no matter what Margaret’s motives are.
So, play the tape for the world, we say! Take down Virgil Love the messy way if you must, Margaret. It’s more fun to watch, anyway.
The saga of the tape does get hard to follow on the episode, so it’s strangely more interesting to follow Eugene’s journey than anyone else.

He’s not a good man, but there’s an argument to make that Eugene is a good father to his kids with Margaret, and that he’s trying to make amends with his other three children.
For the record, I think I must finally accept that Eugene’s alive.
That said, it’s the right thing to do to go to the real Mark’s bedside when he learns the story from Jason’s friends. He doesn’t deserve a medal of honor or anything, but a lesser man wouldn’t go.
Speaking of the biological Jason — he’s awake and it’s the most exciting part of the episode. Watching morally corrupt people fight gets exhausting.
Finally, someone to root for! (We hope.)
Prayer Notes:
- The shots of Ginger looking for Eugene in the crowd right before she gets abducted are beautiful.
- How does Becky know that Eric is with Rachel?
- I need to know more about Franklin and his family history.
