Katherine Langford (13 Reasons Why) returns to Netflix as the star of its latest fantasy drama Cursed, based on the book of the same name. Cursed tells a classic story with a modern twist, as it reimagines the Arthurian legend to focus on the Lady of the Lake.
Langford plays Nimue, a teenage heroine with mysterious gifts who will later become the Lady of the Lake. Cursed follows Nimue on her journey to deliver an ancient sword to Merlin. She does so through an unlikely partnership with a young mercenary named Arthur, played by Devon Terrell, who also appeared on Netflix’s Barry.
Merlin is played by Vikings fan-favorite, Gustaf Skarsgård. Teen Wolf fans will be thrilled to know that Daniel Sharman also appears on Cursed as the Weeping Monk.
The trailer proves how powerful and courageous Nimue is as she faces the terrifying Red Paladins and their complicit King Uther. It’s no wonder Nimue becomes a symbol of rebellion against the Red Paladin’s tyranny.
It’s clear from the trailer that the Red Paladins wish to make magic extinct, which, of course, is a direct threat to Nimue and her mission.
Nimue’s relationship with her mother is important and her mother’s death will impact Nimue’s quest. It’s refreshing to see such a large-scale fantasy show center a woman’s story.
The scope of the series translated through the photos. Its epic trailer feels reminiscent of Netflix’s hit The Witcher.
Cursed is sure to be one epic adventure. Luckily, we have Nimue to guide us through it!
