The Baker and The Beauty Review: I Think She’s Coming Out (Season 1 Episode 4)
Noa meets the Garcias as the realities of a relationship with a celebrity start to hit on The Baker and The Beauty Season 1 Episode 4, “I Think She’s Coming Out.”
It’s family dinner time as Noa meets Daniel’s entire family. While the night starts cautious but easygoing, things take a quick turn as a bomb drops, and Vanessa drops by in an hour that grounds everyone’s stories in an engaging way.
Rafael’s immediate response to Noa’s presence is cautious but kind. Their conversation during the bakery tour is a highlight as Rafael candidly talks about his concerns when it comes to her relationship with Daniel.

I love that he’s concerned about keeping his son’s heart safe. It’s those motives and their interactions throughout the hour that makes his decision to try to help the pair out once the paparazzi arrive that much sweeter.
It ultimately feels like Rafael extending an olive branch to Noa after overhearing what she wanted out of the family dinner.
Meanwhile, Natalie’s inadvertent coming out to her family is about as chaotic as the dinner turns out to be. It’s sweet that Amy helps her work through what happens at the dinner table and how accepting she is of Nat’s announcement.

On the flip side, Mari’s reaction to Natalie coming out is heartbreaking. Her devastation at hearing the news is very rough to see, especially how she’s not willing to accept who her daughter is.
It feels like Mari’s explanation for her anger and sadness over Natalie is that she never really knew her daughter feels a little flimsy in the face of everything.
There’s also the matter of the inadvertent outing that I’m still not entirely sure how to feel about. What did you think of the accidental outing?

With the way things end for Natalie and her parents by the end of the hour, I’m curious to see where things go for them and their relationship, and how things will change between Mari and Rafael.
How will Mari make it up to Natalie after it all? Will we see their relationship ever be the same again?
Though not a significant aspect of the hour, I like the hints of the argument between family obligation and considering life beyond it, especially when Noa mentions the possibility of Daniel doing something aside from taking over the bakery from his father.
With Noa and Daniel officially public, and Natalie officially out to her family, what’s next for the Garcia family?
Random Thoughts
- Lewis’s blind date, Trevor, introduction is adorable. Their conversation is interesting and adds depth to Lewis beyond his connection to Noa. It’s that sweet moment and the message he leaves for Trevor that makes his final scene in the episode that much more painful.
- I’m surprised it takes 4 episodes to get to the title drop, but it’s a fun way to end the episode.
- I have to say that keeping Vanessa from exposing Noa and Daniel as she walks out through the front of the bakery helps reinforce that even through the heartbreak, she still doesn’t go that far. How much does what Mateo tell her affect that decision?
