Percy Jackson TV Series in Development at Disney+
Calling all Demigods, Disney is taking us back to Camp Half-Blood — the right way this time!
Author Rick Riordan has officially announced that his book series Percy Jackson & the Olympians is being developed into a live-action TV series for Disney+.
Ever since the Percy Jackson film series failed to make a huge splash on the big screen, fans have been asking for the book series to get a proper adaptation on the small screen. It was a plea that became all the more reasonable in November when Disney+ launched its streaming service.

It seems Disney+ is in agreement and has decided to work with Riordan to develop the book series properly, starting with bringing The Lightning Thief to life in Season One and continuing with the original storyline of all five books.
“Hey Percy Jackson fans, for the past decade, you’ve worked hard to champion a faithful on-screen adaptation of Percy Jackson’s world. Some of you have even suggested it would be a good series for Disney+. We couldn’t agree more,” Riordan wrote to fans on Twitter.

“We can’t say much more at this stage but we are very excited about the idea of a live-action series of the highest quality, following the storyline of the original Percy Jackson five-book series, starting with The Lightning Thief in season one. Rest assured that Becky & I will be involved in-person at every step of the show. There will be much more news in the future, but for now, we have a lot of work to do! Buckle up, demigods. It’s going to a fantastic, exciting ride!”
The Percy Jackson series follows the son of Poseidon as he comes to terms with his new life as a teenage demigod and begins training at a camp for other half-bloods. In book one, Percy finds himself at the center of a conspiracy after Zeus’ lightning bolt is stolen and he must go on a quest to retrieve it from the thief.

The original Percy Jackson & the Olympians series consisted of five books (The Lightning Thief, Sea of Monsters, The Titan’s Curse, The Battle of the Labyrinth, and The Last Olympian).
Logan Lerman, who played Percy Jackson in the film adaptations, took to Twitter to congratulate Riordan. “Excited to see this! Hope it gets the adaptation the books deserve,” he stated.

The Percy Jackson series joins the likes of The Gentleman’s Guide To Vice & Virtue, which is currently in development for HBO Max, and Shadow and Bone, which is set to stream on Netflix. This could be the start of another YA adaptation trend as more books make their way to the small screen.
