Burden of Truth Review: Wherever You Go (Season 3 Episode 2)
Billy and Joanna’s extended trip to Millwood further hints at underlying issues while also offering a bit more about Crawford Chang’s newest client on Burden of Truth Season 3 Episode 2, “Wherever You Go.”
Crawford Chang deals with another loss, this time in Millwood. But with that loss comes the idea that there’s more to Kodie’s case involving the Chartrand’s sketchy family ties.
We already get the impression that Kodie’s family is trouble from Billy’s perspective on Burden of Truth Season 3 Episode 1, “Crawford Chang.” It’s only once Joanna pushes a bit more that she gets more of a look at what the Chartrands have been up to and what exactly they must contend with in court potentially.

What’s interesting is that the premiere initially sets up more corruption-based reasoning behind what’s happening to Kodie, which is entirely believable given the context of the last few seasons. With the addition of Crystal and Kodie’s contentious dynamic offers another potential explanation, it adds another layer to investigate in terms of her case, both emotionally and procedurally.
Crystal’s motives make the appearance of True’s paternal grandmother swoop in and try to assume custody of both True and Madison feel somewhat like a surprise. It’s clear that there’s more to it than a family disagreement, but coming from both Kodie’s family, and her former mother-in-law is intriguing.
It’s heartbreaking to see Kodie and Madison get put through the wringer in what seems like a very unfair way, especially in the face of doing everything right. Even in the face of the positive drug test and the drugs, Billy finds in those wind chimes; it feels a little too blatant for it to be the truth.

So, if she’s clean and sober, who’s responsible for planting the drugs and that positive drug test? How far does it go, and who is dead set on ruining Kodie’s life?
Meanwhile, the cracks are widening in Joanna and Billy’s relationship as the stress of running the firm, the mounting bills, and the pair’s traumas continue to press on them.
There are moments throughout the hour that feel like they might finally be able to confide in each other on a deeper level only to have it swiftly moved to the back burner. You just can’t help but want them to talk, especially if they’re a year into their relationship.

With all those “final notices” Billy’s throwing around, it’s becoming worrisome quickly, slapping on whatever’s going on with his brother at the moment. Joanna’s also dealing with something that clearly goes beyond her father’s death.
From her flashbacks to her new attempts at relating to Kodie’s eldest to that final shot of the pregnancy test, there is no doubt that they need to communicate more.
Even in the face of what they’re hiding from each other, the pair’s moment by the fire is incredibly sweet and heartwarming, as Billy essentially tells Joanna that wherever she goes, he will follow.
With that final conversation, is there a chance that they will be opening to each other soon, or will it become a powder keg situation?
Random Thoughts
- Sam’s attempts to make peace with everyone continue to go as badly as you’d expect, considering the massive abuses Sam allowed for last season.
- Taylor’s missing and Luna’s concern simmers to the point where the lack of reply to any of her text messages adds a layer of dread that ratchets throughout the hour right up until the end. Where is Taylor?
- Owen’s obsession with his guilt over Sam Mercer being free reaches a worrying fever pitch at a stunningly fast pace.
