Single Parents Review: Good Holidays To You (Season 2 Episode 10)

Reviews, Single Parents

While Single Parents Season 2 Episode 10, “Good Holidays To You,” isn’t the funniest of episodes, it does deliver some fantastic, emotional moments.

Graham meeting his dad this season has been a possibility ever since we first met Derek in the Ratso’s drive-through back on Single Parents Season 1 Episode 23, “Ketchup.” It was only a matter of how and when it would happen.

Having meeting his dad be an item in Graham’s letter to Santa is an unexpected way for the issue to be brought up again, but it’s perfect because it shifts the focus away from how Angie or Derek feels about the situation to how Graham does.

Because at the end of the day, we’re talking about allowing a son to have a relationship with his father.

Angie finally opening up to Will about why she’s fighting so hard against it allows us to see her vulnerable, which is rare — she doesn’t want to give up control, and by letting Derek into Graham’s life, she’d be doing just that.

This admission is a glimpse into Angie’s heart. We rarely see her worry like this. It makes her a bit more human and, in turn, a bit more likable.

Will, who has been there since the beginning (and who has voiced his disdain for Derek), is there to help Angie realize that maybe it’s not such a bad idea to let Graham meet Derek.

Will: I need to go wash down this petty theft with some hot cocoa! Just because we’re criminals doesn’t mean we can’t be comfy.

Will and Angie have been in a will they won’t they situation since, well, the show started, but it’s episodes like this that remind us just how wonderful they are as friends.

Will is able to give Angie the tough love that she needs in order to see that Graham should know his father, and Angie, in turn, involves him in petty theft.

In all seriousness, the two of them are good together, and having Angie comment on how glad she is that Will is in Graham’s life is the icing on the adorable cake that is their scenes during this episode.

Miggy: You know how hard I work on my Christmas card/Instagram post cause I don’t know where the stamp goes.

Douglas: Well at least you know that there are stamps, and that’s more than I’d expect.

The jig is up — Emma, Amy, and Rory know that Poppy and Douglas are dating.

Anytime there’s a comedic element in people finding out two people are dating, my mind always goes to Friends because you can’t deny that they handled the Chandler and Monica reveal amazingly well.

Unfortunately, Single Parents‘ reveal isn’t as funny as Friends, but everyone going to Miggy for confirmation is adorable, and it’s interesting that both the kids and adults know that they can trust him to tell the truth.

The highlight of this entire storyline is that it ends with Douglas and Poppy saying “I love you.” It’s the sweetest moment, especially since Douglas is the one to say it first.

While their relationship isn’t showcased in every episode, we have been able to see them progress in their relationship. It’s been cute seeing them overcome their bad dates and watching them get to know each other’s kids a bit more.

I can’t wait to see what’s next for Poppy and Douglas now that their relationship is public knowledge to the kids. There better be some amazing Rory and Douglas storylines coming up.

Stray Thoughts:
  • How come no one made a lumberjack joke about Will because, with the beard and the plaid and being in a cabin, he was asking for it.
  • Miggy’s Christmas card/Instagram post is the absolute cutest thing.
  • Watching everyone bail Will, Sophie, Angie, and Graham out of jail would’ve been hilarious, and I’m upset we don’t get to see it.
  • Watching Will in weatherman mode is always a blast.
