Legacies Review: Since When Do You Speak Japanese? (Season 2 Episode 4)

Legacies, Reviews

With an Oni on the loose Hope, Landon, and Josie must do everything to track him down, Alaric might have a potential love interest, and one shocking person remembers Hope again on Legacies Season 2 Episode 4, “Since When Do You Speak Japanese?”

Legacies continues to slay the game when it comes to their storylines and character development, a feat that a lot of shows have trouble with, in some aspects. But, there hasn’t been a dull moment since Season 2 began and I don’t anticipate it slowing down anytime soon.

An unexpected twist; Lizzie is the one who remembers Hope before anyone else, and even though they had their ups and downs you can see in Lizzie’s face when she realizes she knows Hope there’s happiness.

The pure joy in her face after realizing is heartwarming and I’m ecstatic because this means that Hope has another friend that she can talk to and connect with.

I wonder if there will be any other side effects of Josie using the black magic on her to rid the Oni of her body, or if it only revealed her lost memories.

On another note, the way Lizzie walks up and stabs Landon with a sword right in front of an innocent bystander is glorious. It’s so smooth and without hesitation that she completely forgets she’s standing in the open in the town square. It makes for a good laugh.

Legacies Season 2 Episode 4 - Thomas Doherty as Sebastian and Jenny Boyd as Lizzie

I hope that for Lizzie’s sake MG corners her and convinces her that he’s seen Sebastian as well because she already deals with an insane amount of stress on top of her obvious depression. Being told that she’s seeing people is just the icing on top of the cake for her to believe that she’s legitimately going insane.

The people around Lizzie can’t see or comprehend just how much she’s going through because nobody else really knows what’s happening with the merge.

All she can see in her future is Josie defeating her and taking her powers so if that’s what her destiny is supposed to be then what’s the point in even trying to fight or continue living? She needs someone to reignite the spark inside of her.

Legacies Season 2 Episode 4 - Soji Arai as Kurutta and Demetrius Bridges as Dorian

Watching Lizzie beg Josie to kill her and just end everything because she can’t continue living on is something that hits home with a lot of people dealing with depression and I like that Legacies has never strayed from accurately portraying the process of dealing with depression and anxiety.

Sebastian is just the guy to make Lizzie want to continue living, or at least makes it easier, but there’s no way that he’s a good guy considering nobody can see him unless he allows them to. I mean, I assume that Sebastian has the power to hide from others considering how MG can all of a sudden see him.

The connection that Hope and Landon share will never go away, but it especially won’t be an afterthought now that she’s informed Landon how they used to be in love and that’s why he continues to see her every time he dies. I like Landon and Hope together, but I also like Josie and Landon together so I’m at a crossroads.

Legacies Season 2 Episode 4 - Kaylee Bryant as Josie

On one point I want Hope to tell Landon about how she still loves him and us see them end up back together, but I don’t want to see Josie hurt.

I also think that that would be a tipping point for Josie to dive into black magic even deeper than what she has been, which isn’t good because it’s obvious the headmaster is using black magic to change Josie into what he wants.

I wonder if the headmaster could possibly be one of the red hooded people running around and summoning demons, now that there’s two of them.

Other Thoughts:

  • Alaric and the deputy would make a cute couple if she’s actually a good guy and not secretly trying to take him out.
  • MG needs to stop trying to take his shot with Lizzie at this point and give her a break to figure out what she wants.
