TV News Wrap-Up: NBC Cancels ‘Sunnyside’, CBS All Access Renews ‘Why Women Kill,’ ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ Season 3 Trailer Drops
We’re deep into fall television and while some shows are going strong, a few more are already making their exit.
This week we’ve seen one show get renewed, two get canceled, and a new series get picked up. There have also been some new casting teases for a couple of shows.

It looks like HBO Max is taking the audience back to Rydell High. According to The Hollywood Reporter WarnerMedia-backed streamer has announced a straight to series order for Grease: Rydell High. The series will be produced by Paramount Television, the same studio behind 2016’s Grease: Live. The search is underway for a writer for the series.

The trailer for Season 3 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has been released, and fans might see someone they know from Gilmore Girls. The Season 3 trailer shows Midge getting some advice from Gilmore Girls alum Liza Weil, in a mysterious role. The season also depicts Midge and Susie on tour with Shy where they’re learning some important lessons about show business. Check out the trailer below.

Grey’s Anatomy has cast a new head of pediatric surgery. TV Line reports that Shameless alum Richard Flood will be headed to Grey Sloan as Dr. Comac Hayes, the new head of Pediatric Surgery. His casting will fill the void left by Justin Chamber’s Alex Karev who was fired at the end of Season 15. Flood’s first episode will air later this season.
Bluff City Law will be wrapping production after it’s original 10-episode order. TV Line reports that the law drama will be concluding production on October 31st. No official statement has been released from NBC but an Insider reported that the network has declined to pick up the series past its original order. In its current air slot, Bluff City Law is reportedly delivered a 36 percent retention rate over last fall’s Manifest which retained 79 percent of viewers.

Tricia Helfer is returning to Lucifer for the final season. A TV Line exclusive teased Helfer’s return as Charlotte, but with a somewhat different look. Charlotte last appeared in the Season 3 finale where she was killed off. The final season of Lucifer does not yet have a release date from Netflix.
CBS All Access has renewed Why Women Kill for a second season. According to Variety, the series has become one of the platforms most-streamed shows. The first season starred Ginnifer Goodwin, Lucy Lui, and Kirby Howell-Baptiste as women who were dealing with acts of betrayal. Why Women Kill Season 2 will follow a new set of characters and storylines.

NBC has canceled its freshman comedy series Sunnyside. In a TV Line report, the remaining episodes are going to stream online and the final season of Will & Grace will fill its Thursday night slot starting October 24th. The remaining seven episodes will be released on a weekly basis. Production will be completed on all eleven episodes. Sunnyside premiered to 1.77 million total viewers and a 0.4 demo rating making it the least-watched fall premiere on one of the Big 4 Networks. Kal Penn expressed interest on Twitter to market the show to an established streamer.
