Chicago Med: Torrey DeVitto and Nick Gehlfuss on Natalie’s Injury and the Upcoming Crossover [Video]
Chicago Med’s Torrey DeVitto and Nick Gehlfuss shared a lot of laughs at this year’s One Chicago press day.
The two sat down with reporters to talk about the upcoming One Chicago crossover event, what’s next for Will and Natalie, how the actor who plays Philip (Ian Harding) came to work on the show.
They also talked about what makes working for the One Chicago Franchise so special. (Watch the full video below.)
“For me, this is the first time I’ve ever been able to lay roots in a location and have a consistent paycheck, so those things alone are kind of great. But because there are so many people involved in this franchise, we’re all transplants coming to a place that really wasn’t on my radar,” Gehlfuss began.

“The best part about this is it’s got this big group of people, we get to hang out with another and have a community that’s kind of built-in. Because it’s very difficult for us to go out after work because it’s so late and we work so often so it’s hard to meet new people. Really I guess it is,” he continued. “He’s almost built in its own community, like ‘Hey, I know I’m going to put you guys in this place…'”
“So let me give you friends!” Devitto joked.
“Dick gave us friends!” Gehlfuss laughed.
The two also discussed their acting inspirations, and it turns out they have one in common.
“Jim Carrey was an influence for me,” Gehlfuss said.
“Me too, actually. I used to impersonate him at every family dinner. I was obsessed. Jim Carrey, [and] Les Mis was a big thing for me when I saw it when I was seven, I just wanted to re-enact all of Éponine’s scenes. And I would make my dad be Marius, and I would die all the time on the floor!”
DeVitto said she’ll still see that play any time she has the chance.

After a bit of laughter (and DeVitto explaining to Gehlfuss what Charlotte Russe is!) the two moved on to discuss the process of shooting upcoming One Chicago crossover.Because the shows are going to be so intertwined for the crossover, it’s been more challenging to film, and the work isn’t over yet.
“We’re still shooting the crossover, by the way,” Gehlfuss said. “As far as I’m concerned, when October 17th happens, that’s when I can take a break from the crossover because it will have aired on the 16th.”

If you’ve seen the most recent episode of Chicago Med, you know Natalie’s judgment has clearly been affected by her injuries, and that has Will worried.
“Will takes major concern in that fact, in the injuries from the accident, because it starts affecting her ability to do her job. Also this suspect character of Philip. Are we all in agreement that he’s got to go?!” Gehlfuss asked.
“Ian [Harding]’s one of my best friends, so obviously it’s been fun. I got my two bros that I get to work with!”
Gehlfuss chimed in that Torrey was actually the reason Harding came to the show.
“Then she ending up kissing her friend!” he joked.
“I know! I did not know it was going to be for that. I thought it was just going to be for a guest star!” Devitto laughed.
