American Horror Story: 1984 Review: The Lady in White (Season 9 Episode 7)
Brooke and Donna have a bad interaction with a hitchhiker, Jingles return to Camp Redwood reveals a darker past, and the identity of the person behind the original murders at Camp Redwood is revealed on American Horror Story: 1984 Season 9 Episode 7, “The Lady in White.”
The return of Lily Rabe is here and I couldn’t be happier. It’s always a tad bit depressing when you don’t get to see your favorite actor/actress in a series they’ve been in the entire time, but it’s always a surefire happy moment when they make an appearance. However, it’s not shocking considering Rabe was only a part of two or three episodes in past seasons as well.
From the looks of it, we may even get to see Rabe in the next two episodes as well, since she still needs to confront Benjamin after convincing him to kill himself where his brother died. Her return as Ben’s mother is quite fascinating and gives a proper backstory for Benjamin as well that I thoroughly enjoy. I love a well-rounded character.
The only thing that’s clear about this season is that Benjamin should have never had any of the bad things in his life happen to him, but because of his evil mother who can’t stand the sight of him his life ultimately got ruined. It wasn’t his fault that his brother died in the lake, he was there to watch him swim. The fault should be on the two men who turned the engine on and slaughtered him.
Benjamin should never have been put in the situation to have to kill his mother, but now I hope that he gets the chance to kill her once again so he can finally put her soul to rest. The only problem now is he’s also a ghost, so if he kills his mother does that mean that everyone at Camp Redwood vanishes as well, including him? Is she the reason why nobody gets to move on to the afterlife or was she just the beginning of the curse?
I wonder what he has planned for Ramirez now that he’s dead and can’t be killed for good at his hands. Whatever he’s got cooking it’s sure to be a bloody, gruesome match between the two.
As for Margaret, I still think she’s a psychotic nut job. Yes, she was forced to commit her first murder and had no choice, but everything after that is all her doing and she still deserves to go down for what she’s done. Now that Trevor and Montana have linked back up again, I foresee Margaret, hopefully, dying in the finale.
I still want each person Margaret’s wronged to have one shot at stabbing her, or better yet, let her die and chase her for the rest of her life as a ghost.
I want to believe that Donna only saved Brooke because she’s trying to right her wrongs, but part of me feels like she could still have something up her sleeve. Why else would she bring the newspaper about Camp Redwoods festival to the hotel right where Brooke can see? For all we know this is a game to get them both back to the camp so she can finish whatever she has planned.
Brooke has the worst luck when it comes to coming in contact with serial killers, but I still think that she will be the final girl of the season. After all that she’s been through it’s only right that she gets to live and isn’t dead or stuck to roam the grounds of Camp Redwood forever.
Other Thoughts:
- Dylan McDermott making a return is a nice touch to the episode.
- I’d be willing to bet that Trevor kills himself so he can stay with Montana forever.
- I wish that Jingles hadn’t killed himself at the moment and given his mother the satisfaction of being the one who finally got the upper hand on him.
- Montana and Xavier’s plan to murder everyone in hopes of a supernatural investigator showing up is actually pretty genius.
