Battlestar Galactica Getting a New Reboot for NBCUniversal’s ‘Peacock’ Streaming Service
All of this has happened before and it will happen again.
Deadline reports that the 1970s television show, Battlestar Galactica is getting a reboot from Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail. The new reboot will premiere on NBCUniversal’s new streaming network called Peacock, and will drop in April 2020.

The title was high on the list of projects that Esmail wanted to tackle as part of his new four-year deal with NBCU’s Universal Content Productions.
NBCU’s Universal produced the original series created by Glen A. Larson as well as the successful Ronald D. Moore revamp from 2004 to 2009.
Deadline reports that Esmail has been in touch with Moore and has been blessed with taking on the franchise because of his love for Moore’s work on the reboot.

The premise of Battlestar Galactica is that it follows the remains of the human race, on the verge of extinction after a series of wars with a race of robots.
The Twelve Colonies, their home worlds, are destroyed, leaving the last survivors spacefaring in battleships with the Galactica anchoring them while they search for Earth.
There is no word yet on exactly what the new incarnation will involve, but Battlestar Galactica has a long history of reboots and sequels to its name.
The original series ran from 1978 to 1979 and starrred Richard Hatch, Dirk Benedict, and Lorne Greene as Commander Adama. The series was followed by a shortlived sequel in 1980 that lasted ten episodes. It went on to spawn comics, a video game, a board game, and several books, gaining a cult status.

Then in 2004, Ronald D. Moore rebooted the series on the then SciFi Network wth a three hour mini-series with an outstanding cast including Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Katee Sackhoff, Grace Park, Tricia Helfer.
After critical acclaim the series went on to produce four seasons. ending in 2010, and even won a Peabody Award. The series also produced a couple of TV movies and a web series.
Moore followed the series with a prequel called Caprica that was cancelled with five episodes left in its sole season.
This is the first we’re hearing of the Battlestar Galactica reboot, but it’s not the only Peacock-bound series that has been announced today. NBCU also announced a reboot of Saved By the Bell from 30 Rock producer Tracey Wigfield with two original cast members returning.
