The Bachelorette Recap: Stay in Your Lane (Season 15 Episode 6)

Recaps, The Bachelorette

On The Bachelorette Season 15 Episode 6, the men’s behavior causes Hannah to question if finding love is possible.

On The Bachelorette Season 15 Episode 6, there is a whole lot of talking but not very much being said. During a good season, the connections formed on the reality TV dating franchise are about as deep as puddles, but Hannah and her boys can’t even get a toe wet.

Let’s start with Hannah telling Luke P. she cannot give him a rose. This guy really has two expressions: befuddled and bond villain. Despite spending the entire day failing to connect on any level, Luke P. can’t believe Hannah’s cutting him loose.

Luke P. isn’t going anywhere. We know he’s going to come back into the picture. Maybe we don’t expect it to be minutes later, but this dude is not going anywhere without the help of security. They’ll have to drag him off like a spoiled toddler pitching a fit at the local Wal-Mart.

Not only are these two not on the same page, but they also aren’t reading the same book. Luke P. is either A) so competitive that he just views Hannah as a prize he must win or B) a seriously disturbed man who can’t take no for an answer. I’m not suggesting Hannah is in danger, but when did “no” stop meaning “no?”

Luke’s return isn’t a romantic gesture, it shows a continued tone-deafness — behavior we see over and over where he’s concerned — because she asks him to respect her decision. But Luke returns, and he’s reprogrammed. Now he’s ready to yell and scream if it means getting a rose.

Conveniently, Luke P. admits the message is received loud and clear. Expect the vocalization of many introspective thoughts from resident villain Luke P. moving forward.

Because Hannah does have an undeniable and somewhat disturbing attachment to Luke P., she grants him clemency. She doesn’t give him a rose, but she lets him hang around in the hopes he’ll prove he’s a changed man.

All the other guys await Luke’s fate anxiously, and they aren’t happy to see him return. Garrett is convinced Luke P. saved himself by throwing somebody else under the bus. Prior to Luke and Hannah’s disastrous date, the boys, mainly Garrett, warn him not to bring up anybody else’s name.

Luke P. swears he didn’t talk out of turn about any of the other guys. Of course, nobody trusts anything Luke says because he’s a proven liar.

As for Hannah B., she knows all of the other men dislike Luke P., but this is The Bachelorette, boys, and Mama is calling the shots.

Hannah comes to the cocktail party locked and loaded with another toast. Over halfway through this process, she really wants to hear about everybody’s hopes and dreams, and she plans to reciprocate. Why we’re waiting to do this when Grant the unemployed weenie eater is still around is a bit baffling.

There are guys still on this show who I couldn’t identify if some crazed Bachelor Nation fan were to hold a gun to my head. It’s like all the redshirts from Star Trek are alive and well, and Captain Kirk is dead.

Garrett can’t help himself. Instead of zoning in on Hannah, he has to find out if Luke P. did or did not talk trash about the other guys during him and Hannah’s one-on-one date. Hannah explains a few names came up in context (Mike, Devin, and Dylan), but she is the one who did the asking.

That’s all the ammunition Garrett needs to go gunning for Luke. So while the boys haggle over semantics, Hannah’s downing champagne and listening to the WORST possible pool of Prince Charmings bicker like the members of a Southern sewing circle.

Hannah lays down the hammer with this group of buffoons who don’t appear to think she’s capable of handling her own dating drama. No matter how many times Hannah makes it clear that she’s not blind to Luke P.’s faults or anyone else’s, none of these guys can just sit back and get out of their own way.

Hannah is tired of all the fighting and drama. Who wouldn’t be? This is supposed to be about her. They should be trying to toss her up on pool tables and learning all about the cutthroat world of pageants.

Hannah’s a woman of substance, and she would like somebody to know it. I’m not sure if Alabama Hannah’s sweet drawl just falls on deaf ears, or these guys are more interested in getting Luke P. out than getting into Miss Hannah.

Hannah (fond of hitting those hard Gs) advises these boys to worry about their individual relationships with her and push all the other stuff to the side. In other words, they need to stay in their own lanes. Spoiler alert: they don’t.

The bickering continues to the point Hannah ends the cocktail party and moves on with the rose ceremony. Unable to part with Luke P., Hannah sends home Grant, Devin, and Kevin.

This is when things get more interesting because Hannah is coming in hot. She feels defeated and uncertain if she sees a future with anyone at this point. Not exactly good news for the remaining guys.

The party moves to Riga, Latvia where Hannah is ready to not hit it and quit it instead. Let’s be clear that Hannah is never in danger of actually leaving the show. ABC isn’t about to be left holding its d**k because a Bachelorette bails.

Don’t forget, this isn’t just about Hannah’s journey to find love. It’s also about finding the next Bachelor as well as cast members for Bachelor in Paradise. The franchise is incredibly incestuous.

Also, what is the network going to plug into that prime slot for another month? Maybe Chris Harrison demanded more face time, and he’s pretty solid in a crisis.

The episode ends with a weird one-on-one “Men Tell All (minus the men)” interview at the mansion. We waste 45 minutes reliving the highs and lows of stuff that’s just happened in recent weeks.

But in the end, Chris reminds Hannah what a great group of guys she’s got. Really???!! Is this what Stockholm Syndrome is like? It’s Chris’ job to convince Hannah this group of losers is the pick of the litter.

To be fair, Hannah’s shock that this experience is filled with over-the-top drama is annoying and ridiculous. This isn’t her first time at the rodeo. Obviously, Hannah decides to continue, and this all feels like a transparent way to jump-start the latter half of the season.

ABC gives it all away up front in a teaser trailer for what’s to come which includes some all too familiar slut-shaming. I’m not rooting for Hannah to get a proposal, I’m hoping girlfriend tells all these guys to kick rocks.
