Siren Review: All In (Season 2 Episode 10)

Reviews, Siren

Helen and Rick come face to face with their kidnappers, and Ben’s mothers’ health begins to improve after Ryn goes through with the militaries cell experimentation. Meanwhile, Calvin begins gambling to make his money after Xander sold the boat on Siren Season 2 Episode 10, “All In.”

Based off of “All In” it’s clear that, to me, Helen and Rick’s storyline is going to be the most interesting to dive into. Helen’s mother never told her about anyone in her past life or about the group of people who are all descendants from the Pownall Massacre 150 years ago, but Beth speaks as if she knows Helen’s mother well.

I think that Beth is more sinister than what comes off because she swoops in super-fast to break up Helen and John from speaking with one another just after John mentions knowing her mother. There must be a valid reason as to why her mother left the safety of the group to venture on by herself, but part of me feels like she could’ve been forced.

SIREN – “All In” – With Elaine Pownall’s health worsening, she seeks treatment from the military’s medical trial using mermaid cells, but the procedure doesn’t come without side effects to the mermaids. Meanwhile, Helen and Rick learn more about the hybrid status, their history in Bristol Cove, and discover they are far less alone than Helen once believed. John might be old, but I think that he knows what he’s talking about and there’s something that Beth is failing to mention to Helen about her parents and what happened to them. Very few people leave the group so there has to be a major event that happened in her family to make her mother leave for good and never mention it to Helen.

Helen is ecstatic to be around so many people that are like her, but Rick is smart to be apprehensive. After all the opportunities to tell Rick about their heritage, she continued to make him feel like he’s insane when it all could’ve been avoided with her telling the truth. Plus, I still don’t trust her solely on the fact that she has someone who will kidnap whoever she wants on call.

Beth shouldn’t be trusted with anything at the moment until it’s proven she is safe, but I feel like Helen won’t see it until later on. It’s going to take a minute for her to get used to the fact that she does have family and isn’t alone anymore.

As for Ryn, I love that she loves Ben enough to go through with the experiments to help his mother live, but I wish that she had listened to Ben and Maddie instead. The military had no intentions of telling them prior to the experiment that the same thing probably happened to Donna.

A lot seems to be adding up now about why Donna acted the way she did all of the time. She was frightened by the humans, but at the same time could’ve easily had hormone problems from the testing and never even known about it.

It’s terrifying to think about because Ryn off the hinges is not a good thing for the town of Bristol Cove. If she wanders into town while her hormone levels are off she could do something incredibly stupid and expose herself to the whole town.

Part of me thinks that if Ryn were to expose herself in town there’s a slight possibility that Beth would step in, based on how she talks about holding tradition and making sure that memories stay alive.

For Xander to tell Calvin that he’s stupid to gamble when there’s a risk of losing everything, but then be the reason why he’s having to do it, is laughable. Had he not gotten rid of the boat Calvin wouldn’t be out trying to find alternative ways of making money.

Yeah, Xander isn’t gambling or doing something stupid, but he’s working as a bartender and learning fast that it’s not a livable wage for anyone. If Calvin truly is good and gambling and puts some money back every time he wins then I say he continues because until he loses its fast money and a way to support himself.

I hope that Ben and Maddie find Ryn and stop her from doing anything stupid because right now the last thing they need is for more issues to come up.
