The Magicians Review: The Secret Sea (Season 4 Episode 12)

Reviews, The Magicians

Plover escapes the poison room with a little help, The Monster successfully summons his sister inside of Julia, and Quentin breaks the curse placed on the reservoir on The Magicians Season 4 Episode 12, “The Secret Sea.”

Plover is not someone that I expected, or wanted, to see ever again after Alice sent him packing to the poison room for the rest of his life. He is a bad guy who will say whatever he has to to get people on his side. I wish that there were more time for Kady to properly beat the information out of Plover, rather than save his life and let him escape with them.

Plover can whine all he wants about being maltreated, but nobody else molested a child and ruined people’s lives with no remorse. I don’t think that Plover will ever honestly care about what he did to Martin Chatwin based on how he speaks about him anytime it’s brought up.

Of course, Martin Chatwin took his chance to torture Plover when he had the opportunity. That man ruined his childhood and turned him into a complete monster, so his complaining about it is ridiculous. I’m ready for Plover to get the sentencing he truly deserves, which is being banished somewhere horrible or slaughtering his evil behind.

Honestly, Alice and Quentin making up is not something I thought would happen anytime soon after last week’s episode where Alice got handsy with his past self. Their relationship is so back and forth, but based on Quentin’s actions towards her I didn’t expect them to ever get back together on a more severe level.

I think that it’s nice for Alice and Quentin to be on civil terms and be able to be around each other, but I’m not sure them trying to work things out utterly romantic wise is a smart idea. Something always happens between them, and it leads them to big fallouts, and if it happens again, I don’t know what will happen.

Alice and Quentin are more than likely soulmates for one another. The feelings that Quentin hold for Alice will always come back to him after being around her for a certain period of time. It also helps that Alice knows that the things she’s done is completely messed up and she’s not trying to make excuses anymore; instead she just wants to apologize and let it be known that she’s sorry.

One thing that I hope fans don’t get upset over is Quentin possibly going for Alice after us [the fans] witnessing him admit his love for Eliot and trying to make it work with him. There’s a lot of stigmas when it comes to bisexuality and men or women being with the opposite sex, especially after being with someone of the same sex.

Quentin loving and having feelings for Alice in no way shape or form discredits his feelings for Eliot or means that he’s any less bisexual.

Everett believes that if he can use enough magic to become a god he can use his godlike powers to figure out all of their secrets and then report back to the library to record them. But, I don’t trust Everett one single bit, and I’m glad that Zelda isn’t falling for it either.

Once you’ve gotten your hands on that much power, there’s no way that you’d come back willingly to share all of your secrets so others can know what you’re capable of. Everett is going to go mad with power.

Now that The Secret Sea is open, thanks to Quentin, I hope that it gives Alice and Quentin enough of a power push to be able to fight The Monster’s sister. She wants nothing more than to continue going for the old gods, but they can’t allow them to do that while they’re still in Eliot and Julia’s bodies.

I’m excited and nervous thinking about the fact that in the finale next week we’re going to get to see the fate of Eliot and Julia. I’ll be mad if Julia doesn’t get saved, but all I want right now is for Eliot to be released from The Monsters control. If the cliffhanger is only one of them being saved, for now, I hope it’s Eliot.

Other Thoughts:

  • Major shout out to Dean Fogg for helping Zelda and Kady escape the poison room.
  • Margo and Josh are super cute together, and I hope that in the finale she admits her true feelings for him.

Favorite Quotes:

  • “You didn’t give two wet shits when it was Eliot’s life on the line, and now that it’s Julia you’re suddenly leaning in?” – Margo
  • “Try not to Todd this up.” – Dean Fogg
  • “Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but your fish is a werewolf.” – The Vet
