Chicago Med Review: Never Let You Go (Season 4 Episode 19)
The ED is on lockdown after a crazed gunman accosts the doctors, nurses, and puts patients’ lives at risk on the tense Chicago Med Season 4 episode 19, “Never Let You Go.”
It’s understandable why the focus would fall so heavily on the gunman throughout the hour. But there are moments where it feels like his abilities are overestimated in a way that allows for his terrorizing to be stretched as long as it does.
The fact that Lily has to watch along as her father heartbreakingly is gunned down and forced to deliver under such a stressful situation is one of those stories that has me thinking about the future implications for Lily, her father, and ultimately her son.

It’s tough not to consider the potential trauma, honestly, and that’s what adds a certain amount of emotional weight to the story.
While Lily’s perspective adds emotional weight to the story, there’s still a large amount of it that only gives off a level of frustration and causes some measure of consideration of a gunman situation, which is frighteningly entirely possible.
Elsewhere, Connor’s issues with his dad are quickly swept aside in favor of trying to save the man.

Though there’s a host of things they have to talk through to make their relationship even close to okay, the fact that there’s still signs of love and support there serves as an interesting shift in their relationship.
Given what we know about Connor’s episodes being numbered, is it maybe a sign that we’ll see the father/son pair wrap things up on good terms? Will the potential for mending fences between the Connor and Cornelius also lead to potentially having Ava and Connor depart on amicable terms?
Granted there’s a whole lot more messiness involved in the breakdown of Connor and Ava’s relationship than I can imagine salvageable. But time will only tell.

Meanwhile, Ethan and April’s dynamic seems to be moving from the frosty end of the spectrum after finding out that April’s been helping Ethan’s sister with the baby.
There’s a rebuilding of sorts there that’s clearest as Ethan talks her through the central line and the chest tube. There’s a certain level of trust needed to work the way they do in those moments, and it’s definitely present in that moment.
Random Thoughts
- The announcement of departing cast members, Colin Donnell and Norma Kuhling, has me wondering how they will be leaving the series and whether the arc up until this point has been offering hints.
- I may be in the minority, but I was totally on-board with Will and Natalie going their separate ways. To an extent, it felt necessary. So, seeing the pair’s shift back into that longing phase of their story is not really a draw for me.
- Sharon’s choices, at times, are frustrating when it comes to dealing with the gunman. But her final moment before the police kills the shooter highlights just how tough she can be in times of crisis to get things done.

Sharon did good job to make David move to good position for sniper. When the sniper of CPD shot David, I felt relieved.
