Whiskey Cavalier Review: The English Job (Season 1 Episode 5)
The team head to England to try and make amends with British Intelligence by offering some help and find themselves coming up against a new threat on the fun Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 5, “The English Job.”
Part of making amends lands them in the middle of an investigation into high-end break-ins, leading Will and Frankie to meet British Intelligence agent, Emma Davies and her assistant, Hugh Cabot.
After those close moments on Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 4, “Mrs. and Mr. Trowbridge,” things seem a little tenser between Will and Frankie.

It’s honestly a little surprising to see them getting to this point in their arc so soon (and in its freshman season, no less), which makes me wonder where it’s heading and what’s happening in terms of pacing. But I will say that it’s a pleasant surprise that I am here for.
I love that they are poking fun at each other, with Frankie telling Susan that Will doesn’t feel safe with her.
Frankie’s hints of jealousy throughout the hour gives off a bit of a shift in their dynamic, making it appealing to watch after everything that’s happened. What’s a bit unexpected to see is her face as she walks into The Dead Drop seeing Will kissing Emma.

Frankie’s expression, and the vibe she gives off in that final scene, kind of mirrors Will’s reaction to seeing Frankie with Vasili in France and illustrates, along with their close moment on “Mr. and Mrs. Trowbridge,” that there is something brewing.
How long will it continue to brew and what will be the end result?

Meanwhile, Standish is dealing with his own near-death experience on the field and his introspective time leads to a few heartening moments between him and Will, offering a bit of advice and wisdom about how to take moments like that in their line of work.
It makes his moment at the top of the tower on the estate even better, rooting for him to conquer his fear.
Though the team can celebrate a certain level of success, there is a new threat out there in the form of an ominous organization only known as “The Trust,” adding another level to the story we’ve seen so far.

It will be interesting to see where “The Trust” goes and if the team finds themselves as targets on the organization’s radar.
What are the odds that this shadowy organization will develop into some Alias-like Covenant-type of organization?
Random Thoughts
- It’s been a while since “Despacito” was released, played ad nauseam, and remixed to the ends of the Earth, but it’s still funny to see the song pop up throughout the episode, especially in the club.
- Susan, Ray, and Jai’s little prank war is a fun little side story and perhaps a sign that they’re warming up to Ray’s presence. You can’t help but feel a small sense of relief when Susan and Ray put Jai out of his misery and tell him the truth.
- Those royal body doubles are fantastically spot on, and it’s done well.
