
TV News Wrap-Up: Teaser Trailer Drops for ‘His Dark Materials,’ ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Gets Season 7, Fox Greenlights ‘90210’ Revival
We’re getting into spring which means cancellations and renewals are still going to be abundance. It also means more premiere dates announced as networks and streaming services round out their late spring and summer schedules.

Teases & Spoilers
We have a first look at the His Dark Materials series! BBC and HBO dropped the first teaser trailer to the eight-part series based on Phillip Pullman’s trilogy. The adaptation stars Dafne Keen as the series lead Lyra. Gizmodo describes the series as: “…the epic story of Lyra, a young girl who lives in another dimension where every person has their own personal dæmon. After investigating the case of some missing kids, she quickly finds herself wrapped up in a story that involves the building blocks of the universe, multiple dimensions accessed via knife, armored polar bears, and much more.” Check out the teaser for the series here:

HBO released a sizzle reel that includes a Game of Thrones teaser! Much of the final season has been shrouded in secrecy but the first footage has been released in the form of an HBO highlight reel that debuts several new series coming to the network in 2019. The Games of Thrones footage includes Arya Stark looking ready for battle and one of Daenerys’ dragons flying overhead. Also included in the sizzle reel, some clips from the Deadwood rival, Big Little Lies Season 2, and VEEP Season 7.

Netflix dropped a trailer for The OA Part II. The series starring Britt Marling as Prairie Johnson followed a young woman who was returned to her adoptive parents after being missing for several years. She was seen as both a miracle and a threat amongst the locals while recruiting them for a mission. The mind-bending supernatural story will return on March 22nd.

Renewals & Cancellations
NBC’s Wednesday night lineup has received a renewal. Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D. are coming back for their respective seasons. You can read our full report here.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine has been renewed for Season 7 by NBC. TV Line reports that an exact episode count hasn’t be determined for the new season yet, but fans are happy that the first season since the show was saved won’t be it’s last.

Star Trek: Discovery is getting a Season 3 and a new co-showrunner. According to TV Line, CBS All Access has renewed the series and promoted Michelle Paradise to co-showrunner alongside current showrunner Alex Kurtzman. This marks the third showrunner change in as many seasons, but Kurtzman is excited to have her on board, “Her grasp of character and story detail, her drive and her focus have already become essential in ensuring the Trek legacy, and her fresh perspective always keeps us looking forward. I’m proud to say Michelle and I are officially running Star Trek: Discovery together.”

Casting News
Chrissy Meitz from This Is Us is heading to Superstore as a Cloud 9 HR Rep. TV Line reports that Meitz will play Luanne, a human resources rep sent in to investigate a series of embarrassing tweets. The episode will air March 7th at 8pm on NBC.

Josh Radnor is joining Jordan Peele’s Nazi drama The Hunt. The series is set in 1977 New York City, where a band of Nazi hunters discovers “hundred of high-ranking Nazi officials living among us conspiring to create a Fourth Reich in the U.S.” According to TV Line, Radnor’s character, Lonny Flash, a movie star who is a covert member of the group. The series also stars Jerrika Hinton (Grey’s Anatomy) and Al Pacino.
New Series Orders
Alan Tudyk will be returning to Syfy in their new series Resident Alien. TV Line reports that the comic book adaptation will star Tudyk as a crash-landing alien who takes up residence in Colorado as a doctor while he wrestles with the moral dilemma of his mission on earth.

The Baby-Sitters Club is getting a reboot over at Netflix. The streaming service has ordered ten episodes based on the book series by Ann M. Martin. The series follows the babysitting adventures of five friends in Stoneybrook, Connecticut. “I’m amazed that there are so many passionate fans of The Baby-Sitters Club after all these years, and I’m honored to continue to hear from readers – now grown, who have become writers, editors, teachers, librarians, filmmakers – who say that they see a reflection of themselves in the characters of Kristy and her friends. So I’m very excited about the forthcoming series on Netflix, which I hope will inspire a new generation of readers and leaders everywhere,” said Ann M. Martin, author of The Baby-Sitters Club in a press release
The 90210 revival has been officially greenlit by Fox. Fox has ordered a six-episode event series to air this summer. TV Line reports that the cast will play heightened versions of themselves inspired by their real lives and relationships. Cast members Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green and Tori Spelling are all set to appear in the series, but Luke Perry and Shannon Doherty are not attached in any capacity, but Aaron spelling believes that he will star in some capacity. Perry did suffer a stroke earlier this week and his condition remains unclear.
