Shadowhunters Review: A Kiss from a Rose (Season 3 Episode 14)
With the help of Lorenzo, Magnus gets his powers back, but it doesn’t come without a price.
Meanwhile, Jonathan tries his hand at impersonating Jace to kidnap Clary and Maia tries her best to escape with Jordan on Shadowhunters Season 3 Episode 14, “A Kiss from a Rose.”
It’s no secret that since Magnus lost his powers, he’s been going through a life crisis trying to figure out what there is for him to do. But, he can’t believe that he’s important or worth anything without magic because it’s all he knows. That’s why he has no trouble giving up his apartment to Lorenzo for magic in return.
Magnus’ whole life is in his apartment, but that’s not what makes him complete. Almost everything in the apartment wouldn’t be there without the help of magic. Living a mundane life is something that Alec should’ve expected Magnus not to do because he knows how magic is his way of life.

Magnus was warned about the possible complications of Lorenzo returning magic to Magnus, but he is so caught up in the fact that he has his powers back that he’s not taking it slow at all. A bloody nose is only the beginning to what could potentially be Magnus’ fall if he continues to use the magic whenever he wants.
It’s heartwarming that Alec isn’t letting Lorenzo do what he wants without a little pushback. Magnus may not want to give Lorenzo any problems, but Alec has no problem calling him out on his crap.
At the same time, Alec has to understand where Magnus is coming from because he used to be the same way about the institute.
Clary catches on that Jonathan has impersonated Jace to spend the day with her after he kisses her and warns Izzy of what’s happening, but ends up allowing Jonathan to escape. I wonder what Jonathan means when he says that the real Clary is coming around?

Is it possible that being linked together they’re feelings towards each other is growing stronger? Why else would Clary have Jonathan in her hands and stop abruptly before putting him down long enough to take him in? I think there’s part of Clary that can’t do too much to Jonathan because of the connection rune. I hope this doesn’t mean that she ends up on his side.
Without Simon actively looking for Jordan, there’s no telling how long it could’ve taken before Maia and Jordan were found in the cooler. It’s sad in general that Maia’s entire pack was taken out, but it’s especially upsetting because she finally got up the courage to maybe try and lead the pack. She’s been ready for a minute now but was finally about to make her move.
Now Maia has no pack and no leader. The only people she has is Luke, Simon, and Jordan. It’ll be interesting to see what she does from this point on, especially with Luke taking the heat from the cops for the massacre in the restaurant.
Part of me wants Maia to leave town and put herself back together because it’s going to take a good minute to get over witnessing a massacre.

Finding the hidden box inside of Greenlaw makes Izzy one step closer to connecting Penhallow to the Clave torturing downworlders. Izzy is attached to this situation personally, so I’m fine with Alec helping her figure things out along the way, but I want her to be the one to tear everything down around Penhallow personally.
