Christine Horn Talks ‘Bosch’ Season 5, ‘Timeless,’ and More [Exclusive Interview]
Actress Christine Horn has been very busy lately. Her credits racked up in 2018 alone include The Good Doctor and The Haunting of Hill House, and Horn’s got the next season of Bosch up next.
I recently spoke with Horn about what we can expect from Bosch Season 5 as well as her other projects.
One would think that dropping in on a series after four seasons would be daunting, but that’s what Christine Horn clearly looks for: challenges, and plenty of ’em. In fact, when she’s not acting, she’s home hosting her own popular online show, Actor’s Daily Bread.

“I believe it’s just three episodes (of Bosch) as of right now,” she said cautiously. “It’s kind of a slow burn. I was a fan of the show already. The show is so split between what’s happening at the station versus outside of it, so all of my scenes are with his daughter. I didn’t even get to meet Titus, which is so the way television works.”
The fifth season of Bosch debuts on Amazon Prime Video on April 19. Star Titus Welliver, a New Haven native whose titular character is an obsessive, no-nonsense detective (created by best-selling author Michael Connelly no less), is taking his Hardboiled Harry back undercover this season, to bust up an opioid ring.
But the series has been known for its curveballs and intentionally misleading pacing, so can Horn herself even know what’s in store for the character she’s brought to Bosch?
“I do, but of course, I cannot share,” she laughed. “This character has been through a lot.”

The Los Angeles-based Bosch is actually light-years away from where Horn’s career officially began. It was on the opposite coast, and in theater as opposed to television. Yes, The Lion King is where Horn made her debut — you may have heard of it.
“I did The Lion King for five years. It’s a spectacle. My debut was in 2008 at the Minskoff Theater. Five companies of it, and moved around a lot. It was a great experience.”
But, L.A. beckoned, and the guest-starring roles came quickly. The aforementioned The Good Doctor and The Haunting of Hill House are the most recent, and they actually have a few things in common: both roles clearly demanded emotional depth, which could only bring with it some serious draining, and the latter demanded that Horn convey said depth with facial expressions more than via dialogue.

“I’m kind of a scaredy-cat, so it took me a minute to push myself through. But what we’re taught as actors is that acting is not just about when you get to speak next. It’s about being present and letting everything stimulate you. Your environment, the character — so I have more fun because it’s more challenging. You have to read what’s going on by my eyes, from sadness to anger.”
One couldn’t possibly have a conversation with the vivacious Horn and not acknowledge some other roles that have come her way recently, including her role on NBC’s short-lived series Timeless, where she played none other than Harriet Tubman.

Timeless afforded the actress yet another of her beloved challenges: playing someone who actually lived.
“Though that show was short-lived — it was [originally] canceled after one season — the fans made that show come back on the air. And when I got to play Harriet Tubman, it was a dream come true getting to put my spin on her and getting to show her vulnerable side.”
Be sure to catch Christine Horn on Bosch when the new season premieres on April 19th. Bosch is available on Amazon Prime Video.
