Bosch: Start of Watch: Bosch Prequel Series to Star Cameron Monaghan
Cameron Monagahn will star as a young Harry Bosch in the Bosch prequel series and origin story, Bosch: Start of Watch, on MGM+.
The detective franchise also expanded with the Maggie Q-led spinoff series, Ballard, in July. Earlier this month, Prime Video renewed it for Season 2. It follows the original series, which ran for seven seasons from 2014 to 2021, and the sequel series, Bosch: Legacy, which had three seasons from 2022 to April 2025.
Set in 1991 Los Angeles and based on Michael Connelly’s book series, Bosch: Start of Watch follows Harry as a 26-year-old rookie cop. Omari Hardwick will star opposite Monaghan as Training Officer Eli Bridges.

Harry is described as “a stoic, unyielding young man, intensely observant. Harry is now a probationary patrol officer with the LAPD, young Harry possesses all the qualities that will come to mark his legendary career: he’s smart, relentless, determined, fiercely protective of the victims of crime.”
Meanwhile, Eli “is a Vietnam vet, a seasoned, salty, rough-around-the-edges kind of cop who mentors Harry through the mean streets of Los Angeles and the complicated world of the LAPD. Bridges is fighting a war on the streets and looking for soldiers, and they don’t come any brighter than Hieronymus Bosch.”
Bosch: Start of Watch “will explore a city on the edge, teeming with racial tension, gang violence, and a fractured LAPD,” per its description.
“Amid routine calls and growing unrest, Bosch finds himself drawn into a high-profile heist and a web of criminal corruption that will test his loyalty to the badge and shape his future as the detective who lives by the code, “Everybody counts or nobody counts.”

“I’m deeply grateful to Michael Wright and the team at MGM+ for championing this next chapter in Bosch’s journey with such remarkable care and integrity,” Connelly said in a statement.
“Being able to see how Harry Bosch became the man we have loved for 10 seasons is a gift to me and his many fans. I can’t wait to dig in with Cameron and the writers to explore this uncharted character territory,” Connelly added.
Executive producers Tom Bernardo and Brian Anthony co-created Bosch: Start of Watch. Bernardo is the showrunner.
“It’s a terrific privilege to be able to explore both the origins of this iconic character and the Los Angeles that formed him in the early 1990s,” Bernardo shared.

“In telling the story of a young Harry Bosch, we want to honor the faith of Michael Connelly’s legion of readers and the amazing audience that tuned into Bosch and Bosch: Legacy over the years. We’re excited to embark on this journey,” Bernardo continued.
Michael Connelly, Henrik Bastin, Jamie Boscardin Martin, and Jasmine Russ also serve as executive producers. Theresa Snider is the co-executive producer for Hieronymus Pictures. Fabel Entertainment produces.
Titus Welliver portrayed the character of Harry Bosch on Bosch, Bosch: Legacy, and Ballard.
Bosch: Start of Watch is scheduled to start production in Los Angeles in 2026.
