Vanderpump Rules Recap: Love Thy Mother (Season 7 Episode 6)

Recaps, Vanderpump Rules

On Vanderpump Rules Season 7 Episode 6, “Love Thy Mother,” Stassi gets a glimpse of her future. The Toms try to impress Lisa.

The morning following Stassi and Ariana’s joint birthday party, the buzz is all about Stassi’s meltdown. The birthday girl, who turned the big 30, went postal on her boyfriend Beau, aka “the nicest guy to ever be on the show.”

Stassi legit made Beau cry by screaming at him and humiliating him in front of their friends. Feel whatever kind of way you want to about that, but how does any man really bounce back from that kind of scene?

A sober Stassi is a sorry Stassi. It’s her modus operandi to beg for forgiveness after resuming human form. Beau wants Stassi to figure out what triggers her change into a she-beast. Stassi genuinely doesn’t know, but she is deeply worried Beau will dump her because of the way she acts.

The mystery of why Stassi is, well, Stassi is at the heart of the episode. Yes, she’s dated a string of losers. But the real reason Stassi is a mess is the same reason we all are — our mothers (more on that later).

As if the charmed lives of this cast aren’t depressing enough, we learn Stassi has landed a book deal. That’s right, the woman who doesn’t know the meaning of the words “galvanize” or “myopic” is getting paid to put pen to paper and put her thoughts on life out into the world.

Jax and Brittany’s beer cheese and Stassi’s book aren’t the only business ventures the Vanderpump Rules‘ cast members are promoting this season. Kristen Doute launches her own T-shirt line, james mae (you can order one of her creations online for $36).

At the launch party, viewers reunite with Stassi’s mother, a large-chested redhead, Dayna, who likes to verbally abuse her daughter in public. This explains soooo much.

Tensions between mother and daughter erupt during a group outing with Katie, Kristen, and their mothers. The whole scene is like some bizarre time-traveling experiment gone wrong.

Dayna behaves like a drunk, overbearing mother with no boundaries, and Stassi behaves like Stassi. This leads to both women going to their separate corners and crying while being comforted by their respective pals.

It also causes Stassi to have an a-ha moment. Is she really like her mom????!!

Proving how small the world of reality TV stars actually is, viewers learn Scheana is not only dating SUR employee Adam (or at least she’s trying to), but she’s also spending time with his college buddy and former Bachelorette suitor, Robby Hayes. Robby may have been dumped by JoJo Fletcher, but he’s been picked up by Scheana.

Robby won’t bang Scheana either, and while their date feels like it was plucked right out of The Bachelor playbook, one has to question Robby’s motives. Can’t find a girl who isn’t starring on a reality show to date?

James is still at the center of this season’s drama. While he meets with a life coach who breaks his advice down to don’t be a d##k, Lisa calls a staff meeting to discuss James’ firing.

Things go south when it’s pointed out how much money James brings into SUR on the Tuesdays (nee did bring in). It is disturbing that in the current social climate, managers and/or owners would even entertain keeping a walking liability like James around.

Jax, who is also a lawsuit waiting to happen, doesn’t understand the big deal about James. Leave it to Jax to be blind to his own glaring hypocrisy. DJs may be a dime a dozen in L.A. but so are bartenders.

That’s not the point, is it? Those people aren’t on a reality TV show.

What’s particularly laughable is how the fact that James called Katie fat keeps getting brought up over and over again. She was incensed enough by his comment to demand his head, but now it’s all anyone can talk about, blasting a spotlight on Katie’s non-existent imperfections.

It’s also odd to see Lala, who is driving around in her man’s Rolls Royce while her Rover is in the shop, at a staff meeting at all. We all know this girl isn’t really clocking in and out at SUR.

In fact, the likelihood that any actual wait staff show up at this meeting is slim to none. What owner ever sits down to discuss who they choose to fire and why with the help?

Speaking of the help, elsewhere in Queen Vanderpump’s West Hollywood kingdom, Lisa is eager to get the doors to Tom Tom open since she’s promised the venue will be ready for a Daily Mail TV party.

While Lisa has, for the most part, relegated the two Toms to the kid’s table when it comes to their namesake bar, she does give them a chance to come up with a signature cocktails for the party. The boys have 40 recipes in their arsenal, and they manage to sell Lisa on three.

But there’s trouble brewin.’ The customer has requested that James DJ the party, and that makes Katie very, very unhappy.

Vanderpump Rules airs Mondays at 9/8c on The CW.
