The Resident Review: After the Fall (Season 2 Episode 10)
The villains take up a lot of screen time on The Resident Season 2 Episode 10 “After the Fall,” and it’s becoming a problem for the show. At least Lane Hunter is dead. The piece of her story that involves her being out of jail and blackmailing Dr. Bell was becoming increasingly ridiculous.
The interesting part of her whole storyline for me is meeting the victims of her cancer scam. Natalie is a bright spot on the episode. She’s a strong, stubborn woman. But as strong as she is, her skepticism of hospitals because Lane put unnecessary chemo into her body has left her vulnerable. I enjoy watching her journey on the episode more than any other.

First, she must trust Conrad. As the episode goes on, she must make harder and harder decisions about her medical care. It’s quite interesting to watch and realize just how many unique stories Lane Hunter left in her wake.
Sometimes, I think The Resident suffers because it began in the middle of the season last year. Lane’s story was more rushed than it would have been in a full season. She hurt so many more patients than Lilly, and I wonder if meeting them before her arrest would’ve made them have even more of an impact.

Lane blackmailing Bell is just a waste of screen time. But I would much rather Lane be alive and well than have to see Gordon Page or hear the word “Quovadis” again.
It’s certainly a unique concept and one that I was excited about at first. If there has been a major arc involving a medical device company on another popular medical drama, I must have missed it.
But this Quovadis story went from potentially interesting to downright ridiculous on The Resident Season 2 Episode 9, “The Dance,” when Gordon Page locked Julian in a room like a Disney villain and then essentially chased her into a river. I can suspend disbelief with the best of them, but that episode crossed a line into “laughable” with this plot, and I just can’t come back.

Then there is Randolph Bell. He’s the show’s original villain, and this episode makes me realize he’s the only one it needs. He’s a jerk, for sure. But at least he’s a jerk who doesn’t do his job with murderous intent.
I’ve just named three antagonists who appear regularly on the show. It’s not a crime procedural, though. The Resident is at its best when the stories focus on medicine and people. They’ve strayed a bit far with all of the con artists, even if they all do work within medicine.

All of that said, Alec Shaw is exactly the type of character the show needs right now, and I’m excited to learn more about him. I just hope that he is not involved in a love triangle with Conrad and Nic. They’ve already had a short one, and that is enough.
I’m hopeful Alec’s story will go in a completely different direction, as The Resident creator responded to my prediction while I was live tweeting the episode on Tell-Tale’s Twitter account.

But speaking of Conrad and Nic, all of this focus on the villains has made me miss them. Don’t get me wrong; I absolutely love a healthy couple. I understand that happy stories are perhaps less dramatic and told less often. I’m also still confident that something is coming because of the flashback episode and hints that they feel differently about having children.
Still, I miss the glimpses into the main characters’ personal lives. Everyone knows Mina and AJ are going to happen. I officially wish that they move faster. But Devon and Mina as roommates will be fun to watch for a little bit.

I’m excited about what’s next. Villains eventually fall, Lane is proof of that. I hope Gordon disappears soon too. I’d much rather continue getting to know the people I started watching the show for in the first place.

I really do like this show, but I really wish they’d take some of the focus off of Emily VanCamp’s part in the show and put more on Conrad, or other actors & actresses in the show. There are so many things that I don’t care for about her and her part. First, it appears that she thinks she knows everything, even more than an experienced and licensed physician. Secondly, the amount of makeup caked on her face is absolutely horrifying. She obviously has some type of underlying skin issue if the makeup artist has to use that much makeup to make her look presentable. And in my opinion, she still looks washed up. She may of had a decent run in the tv series “Revenge”, but that was then and this is now. Third, Conrad should have someone much more deserving in his life on the show, much prettier, more equal to him. I just can’t see someone like him settling for her off stage, only on tv… I really hope the producer reads these reviews, because the show could be great!
I’ve been watching this show since the beginning and really do like it but I feel the Nic character is getting too whiny and not capable of being happy. I’m definitely loosing interest.
