The 76th Annual Golden Globe Awards: ‘The Kominsky Method’ and ‘The Americans’ Among Winners
At the 76th Annual Golden Globe Awards, TV stars and the networks who employ them received their accolades from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA).
The competition was stiff in all the major categories, but the HFPA showed much love to Netflix, particularly to a sentimental buddy comedy starring two Hollywood vets.
Matthew Rhys failed to double down on his Emmy win for The Americans, losing Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series — Drama to first-time nominee Richard Madden (Bodyguard).

Rhys may have walked away empty-handed, but the FX series about U.S. suburban-dwelling Soviet spies did earn the Golden Globe for Best Television Series — Drama.
Academy Award winning-producer (One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest) Michael Douglas won the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series — Comedy. Douglas plays an actor turned acting coach on Netflix’s The Kominsky Method.
Sandra Oh, who shared hosting duties with Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andy Samberg, won Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series — Drama for her role on Killing Eve. Oh made history in 2018 when she became the first Asian woman to be nominated for an Emmy in a lead actress category.

Rachel Brosnahan continues to rack up awards, winning her second consecutive Golden Globe for her title role on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
However, the love for the Amazon series didn’t outweigh the affection for Netflix’s The Kominsky Method (overlooked by the Emmys) which won Best Television Series — Musical or Comedy.
Shut out were Emmy darlings The Handmaid’s Tale and Henry Winkler (Barry). It is interesting to note that after Oh’s touching speech about more inclusion in the entertainment industry, diversity was definitely lacking when it came to most of the winners — both in front of the camera and behind the scenes.
