Siren Review: The Arrival (Season 2 Episode 1)
Ben, Maddie, and Ryn meet up for the first time since deciding to take a break. Meanwhile, Maddie’s mother comes back to town, and Xander begins to fall for bad news on Siren Season 2 Episode 1, “The Arrival.”
Ben, Maddie, and Ryn decide at the end of Season 1 to part ways for a bit so everyone could catch a breather. Now, whether they like it or not they’ll have to work together to figure out what’s going on in the water.
The sonic waves that are being pushed through the water by the oil company are being used to map the ocean floor so they can continue drilling. But, the effect of the sonic waves is killing all wildlife in the water and is now forcing the remaining mermaids to land.

It’s going to get interesting real quick now that there are five brand new mermaids who know nothing about being human and only how to kill. Ben, Maddie, Helen, and Ryn are going to have to work hard to make sure there are no casualties due to them.
It’s evident that Katrina is not going to stay docile for very long. Having to come to Ryn and ask for her help is degrading enough, but now others in her pack are coming up to Ryn instead of her. They recognize that Ryn is the leader on land because she’s the one who knows how to help them survive and is willing to help.

On top of there already being significant tension between Katrina and everyone, there’s a possibility of more coming ashore, so whatever plans Ben, Maddie, and Helen have to keep them secure they need to jump on them.
The shot with Helen standing outside, Ryn behind, Katrina, and then the rest of the mermaids makes Helen look like the leader of the group. I hope that’s a nod for a future storyline we’re going to get to unfold because I want to see more of Helen this season.
I like that Xander is genuinely upset and feels remorse for killing Donna. He was not in the right frame of mind and that mixed with everything going on he snapped, but he’s passed that point, and he’s trying to make amends.

GIL BIRMINGHAM, GARCELLE BEAUVAIS, FOLA EVANS-AKINGBOLA
Ryn being able to forgive Xander so easily shows just how much character growth she’s had because had something like that happened at the beginning of Season 1 Ryn would’ve ripped his head off.
Now, Xander needs to stop mentioning Donna’s death around Ryn because if Donna’s daughter overhears him speaking about her mother, that would be a bad situation. Xander thinks that he’s over the fighting mermaids, but that might not be the case if word gets out that Donna’s killer is running free.
Xander also needs to be cautious of Nicole because she’s in the military and definitely bad news. He’s already got a little thing for her after one day, so I can only imagine what she can get from him after she’s been playing the game for a minute. I’ll tell you one thing, Xander doesn’t make it hard to keep his attention.
I can’t wait to see what this season of Siren has in store because I know there are going to be some big twists.
