Killjoys Review: Baby, Face Killer (Season 4 Episode 6)

Killjoys, Reviews

On Killjoys Season 4 Episode 6, “Baby, Face Killer,” D’av’s son picks his name, and if you don’t cry during that scene, then you have to be Hullen.

Jaqobis “Jaq” Kin Rit.

It’s fine. Really. The tears will stop falling eventually. He is only two days old, but he already values being a Jaqobis.

D’av: Self defense is all about fun and protective padding.

Jaq: Wouldn’t it be faster to give me a gun?

D’av: Well, you’re two days old. You gotta save something for day three, chief.

Jaq:  I have a name now, you know. Delle Seyah gave me one before she left, Osmond Kin Rit.

D’av: It doesn’t even have any apostrophes.

Jaq has turned out to be a great addition to Team Awesome Force. His scenes with everyone are delightful, and his presence has forced Delle Seyah and D’av to step up and be parents.

Can everyone take turns training Jaq? Johnny teaching him about computers, Lucy, and tech would be ridiculously entertaining.

It’s a lot of fun to watch Dutch train Jaq, especially when training takes a super strange turn, and Dutch finds herself attempting to not explain sex or sex toys to Jaq.

D’av: He’s been alive for two days, and I haven’t stopped worrying about him for a single second. I just, I don’t know how to dad. An entire human being just parachuted into my life, and I’m responsible for it.

Johnny: I get why you’re worried, but c’mon, Dav, you’ve got this because you were a great dad to me…although you did abandon me, get me stabbed, mule-kicked, semi-hullenized…too soon?

Watching Dutch with Jaq shows us a different side of her. We rarely get to see Dutch as a teacher, especially not to a child, and we haven’t seen her in the role of Aunt before.

It’s interesting that D’av can’t bring Dutch to realize that she is going too far torturing the tattooed guy and instructing Jaq to watch.

Typically, whenever Dutch thinks about turning back to her assassin ways, a Jaqobis can bring her back from the brink, as evident in the story Khlyen told on Killjoys Season 4 Episode 1.

Even after D’av’s lecture, Dutch still believes she was doing the right thing. The Lady has scared her so badly that she is starting to believe Khlyen did the right thing by turning her into a killer.

She’s going down a dark path, and it’s hard to fault her for being afraid and wanting to prepare for the unwinnable war that’s ahead of them, especially after her weird connection with Aneela.

However, D’av’s right — you do not turn his son into a weapon.

Hopefully, Johnny can get through to Dutch and show her that there are other ways to stop The Lady. It will be interesting to see both of them react to D’av and Jaq’s departure.

Do you agree with D’av that Dutch went too far with attempted torture class?

Pip is usually brought in for comedic relief, and while he definitely delivers that during his freakout over the spider crawling around his brain, he also delivers some heartwrenching moments.

Pip: Spider? What spider? What are you talking about?

Zeph: Oh, there’s an itty, bitty, giant green spider in your brain.

Pip: A spider?

Zeph: Yeah.

Pip: Is it moving? Have you seen it? Is it alive? Is it moving? It’s moving, isn’t it? I can feel its creepy legs crawling around in my brain.

If you were on the fence about whether or not to ‘ship Pip and Zeph, “Baby, Face Killer” probably sways you over to the ‘shipping side.

It’s hard not to feel for the two of them as Pip instructs Zeph to do whatever it takes to kill the spider because otherwise, she’ll never be able to trust him again.

It’s refreshing that Pip doesn’t blame everything on the spider. He knows that his betrayal stung, even though he wasn’t in control at the time.

Stray Thoughts:

  • Nooo, Delle Seyah! Don’t leave us!
  • But also, where are you going Delle Seyah?
  • The Hullen have really creepified the RAC.

Where Arrow’s Season 6 Big Bad Went Wrong

Allison is in a love affair with television that doesn't seem to be letting up anytime soon. Slightly damaged fictional characters are her weakness. She loves to spend her free time curled up with a cat and a show to binge-watch. Allison is a Tomatometer-approved critic (Rotten Tomatoes).
