Killjoys Review: Johnny Dangerously (Season 4 Episode 2)

Killjoys, Reviews

On Killjoys Season 4 Episode 2, “Johnny Dangerously,” the focus zooms out to the rest of team and the Quad. It’s all about what everyone else has been up to since Dutch has been in the green.

What’s curious is that there’s no specific time frame.

We have no idea how long Dutch has been in the green, or how long D’av, Johnny, and Delle Seyah were trapped in that elevator. It’s all vague.

This isn’t a good or a bad thing. It’s simply curious.

The flashbacks indicate that our unlikely trio had more than enough time on their hands in the elevator, but they didn’t starve or have to do any intense rationing of their food, that we know of.

The brief flashbacks to all the shenanigans that took place are hilarious. What prompted the Jaqobis therapy session? It’s a very fun look back at the small amount of bonding Johnny, D’av, and Delle Seyah did.

Johnny: Why are we still with her? We should have left her on the elevator to fend for herself.

D’av: Well, you know what they say. The pregnant enemy of my enemy is my alien baby mama.

They are such an unlikely trio with a very strange dynamic, even before Johnny became Hullen. D’av definitely did a little bonding with his alien baby mama while trapped in that elevator.

By the end of “Johnny Dangerously,” you actually don’t want Delle Seyah to be separated from the Jacoqis. Watching the three of them work together is entertaining, and it’s unexpected how much you grow to love them.

In addition to zooming out and focusing on life outside the green, Killjoys Season 4 Episode 2 also focuses on the Hullen problem. Remember them?

We definitely have to worry about The Lady, but there’s also the pesky Hullen that are creepily standing about. Oh, and the spiders. Don’t forget about the spiders.

Johnny becoming Hullen is an unusual way to learn more about the hullenizing process (and what happens when you don’t get enough green plasma), and it is a cool way to see a very different version of Johnny.

Hullen!Johnny has an unusual sense of humor, and he’s an ass. What’s your first impression of him?

Johnny: You haven’t figured it out yet?

D’av: That you’ve lost your mind? Yeah, that’s pretty clear, John.

Killjoys is proving that it knows when to take things slow.

First, we get the fantastic character-driven premiere, and now there’s “Johnny Dangerously” that takes its time showing us what the rest of Team Awesome Force has been up to.

Nothing is rushed through to get us to the exciting danger or to reunite the team. There’s no push to have everyone meet up or to bring The Lady out into the open.

Zeph: I’m worried about the ifs. If I can’t do this, if I’m not smart enough, then the trail runs cold. And then they really are gone because I let them down.

We pick up with Zeph and Pip still in the RAC, and we watch them piece together what happened with Dutch, Johnny, and D’av. There are also spiders involved — Pip definitely consumed one — but let’s try not to focus on that ticking bomb.

While we’d all love to see everyone reunited and fighting the good fight together, it’s also entertaining to follow everyone on their own little missions. Don’t you agree?
